September 28, 2010 – Alberta’s brewers are uniting to brew a collaborative beer for charity called Unity Brew. The Alberta brewers worked together to create an amber ale based on a cooperatively written recipe. Once the beer is ready for consumers to enjoy, Unity Brew will be packaged in 650 ml bottles and sold at select locations throughout Alberta. Proceeds will go to the Kidney Foundation and a number of smaller local charities. This is the second year that Alberta breweries have joined forces to collaboratively brew for charity. Last year’s Unity Brew took place at Grizzly Paw Brewery in Canmore. The 2010 participating breweries are Wild Rose Brewery (Calgary), Big Rock Brewery (Calgary), Brew Brothers (Calgary), Brewsters (Calgary and Edmonton), Grizzly Paw (Canmore), Roughneck (Calmar), Jasper Brewing Co. (Jasper), Banff Ave. Brewing Co. (Banff), Drummond (Red Deer), Yellowhead (Edmonton), Amber’s (Edmonton), and Alley Kat (Edmonton). The brewing of Unity Brew took place at Alley Kat Brewing Company in Edmonton on September 25, 2010. The finished beer will be sold as “Unity Brew 2010” and will be officially launched to the public at the new SHA-BAM Beer Festival at Mayfield Trade Centre in Edmonton on October 15 & 16, 2010. The beer will also be available through specialty liquor stores and through some of the participating brew pubs and breweries.
