(Draught at Iolida Village, Agia Marina, Crete, Greece.) "Neutral", unremarkable pale lager. Unoffensive. The beer was cold, I was thirsty, it did the trick.

Pours straw yellow with a thick eggshell head. Aroma presents crisp fresh malt plus a hint of apple. Flavor features crisp fresh malt, a hint of apple - that's it. Texture provides average body and so-so fizz. Fine with a meal.

500 ml capped green bottle. Poured a crystal clear and golden-yellow coloured P L with a good two fingers, light beige and soapy foamy head that had a quite short retention and tons of micro bubbles and some greater one. Soft carbonation. No lacing. The aroma is a malty juice, light bready and an unpleasant skunky feel. The flavour is sweety malts, marked honey and nothing more. The mouthfeel is quite thin, light crispy and a bit sticky. The texture is watery. This light to medium bodied P L has a dry sugary-honeyish finish. Entirely unpleasant, this Alfa Hellenic Lager is scarcely drinkable. For me it's not a disappointement but exactly what I expected from this Greece product, brewed and owned by a major brewing group, with its H Q in the Netherlands.

Nice pale golden color with huge white head. Aroma is bit weak but has some hops and bread in it. Taste is quite good with strong hops and bread and aftertaste is nicely refreshing as well. Not bad in warm Greek evening.

Greece, the land of feta, olives, moussaka, bhaklava and yes, ouzo. But can they make beer? This ‘First’ beer pours clear, crisp light yellow. Nice soapy, white head with decent hang time. Settled into a film over the body. In the nose, there’s ‘hay’ and a slight skunky-corn. Not much body to this one. And not much flavor. I hope that by the time I get to Omega something better comes my way.

Pours a medium yellow body, ample carbonation with a mid sized white cap, however it had floaters (yeast?), not common for this style. Smell of sweet malts, light hops, good lacing. Rather average beer all the way around.

This review can be applied to more than one beer. Its like that old Frank Zappa quote that to be a country you need an airline and a beer. Pale/Swil seems to be that beer. They are all relatively similar, pale in colour, weak in aroma, transparent yellow..."average beer" on all accounts. Ive found few exceptions to this in my beer tour round the world. But there is a time and a place for these beers: if you are in its country, eating the food of its people, and feeling adventurous and cultural. Far from anything great, but still can be enjoyed in the right place, at the right time.

Good refreshening lager with no ambitions to be an extremely original one. Cold is perfect during hot summer. I was spending my holiday in Greece, Chalkidiki (amazing land!!!) and enjoying cold Alfa beer and I was really satisfied. Easy to drink, good looking bottle.
