This is the AleSmith incarnation of a Belgian Strong Ale. Horny Devil is an authentic Belgian Style ale, from the Belgian candi sugar right down to the yeast, a Belgian strain from a Trappist monastery in Belgium. In addition to the malts, candi sugar and fresh hops, there is also a little added twist from coriander seeds, which impart a refreshing citrus flavor to an outstanding ale. Belgian ale lovers around the world have raved about Horny Devil, and you will too.

Taps hazy golden with a good eggshell head. Aroma presents fruity, yeasty, malty and butterscotch tones. Flavor features tropical fruit, yeasty, malty, and shy butterscotch tones. Mouthfeel offers fair body and good fizz. Devilishly good.

A big fruit bomb, a bit oversweet with spice. A yellow beer with fast fizzy head. A bit too many banana esters and phenolic but still tasty for a lighter fruity Belgian.

750 ml bottle. Pours clear straw gold with a fizzy creamy white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.
The aroma is wheaty cereal malts with coriander and soapy, floral spices and some soft fruit and earthy belgian yeast.
The flavor is sweet wheaty malts and spice (coriander and chamomile), some earthiness and a medium bitter alcohol finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with creamy carbonation.
Overall, sweet with a lot of spice (coriander, floral, chamomile) and a bit of alcohol. -

Sampled with KnoxBeerCrew, from my stock. Lightly hazy amber pour, tight cap with some lacing, some carbonation. Spicy aroma, zesty and lightly boozy, some heavy honey and citrus and zesty tart fruits with a lots of yeasts. Big flavor of tart and ripe sweet fruits, apples and lemons, zesty, spices, pepper, yeasts. Lots going on in this bottle. Big ballsy brew.

750 ml capped bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Very nice spicy aroma of coriander and cloves, hints of honey, flowers and leather. The flavour is also spicy and relatively sweet, moderate hoppy and peppery notes in the finish. The alcohol is well hidden.

Pours a dull honey brown and has a minimal cap. Aroma is bubble gum, ginger ale, coriander and very sweet. I like this aroma but I’m not loving its very complex and flowery but it’s not winning me over completely, it actually reminds me of an ice-wine. Very yummy taste, honey, wheat malt, yeast, candy and sweet ginger can all be tasted. The 11% is completely hidden not one hint of makes it through. The taste so full and thick syrupy almost. Love this brew its very well done and unique while still holding true to the style.

Bottled. Deep goldeny orange colour with mediumsized foamy white head. Aroma is spices, sweet malts, some slight yeast as well as mild alcohol. Flavour is quite much the same along with some slight spruce, grass and nettle. Warming alcohol all the way through.

Pours out in a hazy golden colour with a rich firm white head. Solid aroma od of yeast, coriander, orange-peels, apricots and mild white pepper. Full-bodied with notes of Seville oranges, coriander, dough and apricots. Solid mouthfeel as usual from Alesmith. Yeast, dried oranges, spices, apricots and mild chalk in the long balanced aftertaste.

DELICIOUS. Pours a tangy golden orange with a low white head. Very fruity and sweet, touches of vanilla. I consider this a dessert beer, great finish.

Bottle from BOLTZ7555. Golden-amber color and pours with a huge pillowy white head. Great retention and heavy lacing. The aroma is lively with lemon, grass, pear, flowers, yeast, coriander. Oranges and coriander are strong in the flavor with some of what the aroma offered seemingly overpowered. Lively here too. Candi sugar, bread, bubblegum, and a citrusy peppery tang round out the flavors. Honestly, this is kind of weird and I can’t really tell you if I like it or not. Sweet and rather tangy without coming across as alcoholic. Actually, this is rather easy to drink for such a high abv beer. Slightly dry but not enough to offset the sweet, sour, tangy, coriander flavor this has going that borders on cloying. It’s an interesting beer and I had no problem drinking it but something is just not there for me and I have come to expect a little better from AleSmith.
