Alaskan Double Black IPA is a combination of traditional beer styles, with a flavor profile most similar to an Imperial IPA and the dark black color, rich flavor and light chocolate head usually found in heartier stouts and porters. The aroma of Alaskan Double Black IPA consists of fresh, citrus notes from Northwest hops and the heavy, dry bouquet of roasted grains. Brewed with an array of dark malts, Alaskan Double Black IPA features the distinctive flavors of coffee and bitter chocolate with a subtle toasted sweetness. Large hop additions late in the boil, and dry-hopping after fermentation, lighten and refresh the overall perception and flavor of the beer. It finishes with a dry palate and lingering warmth and bitterness.

eh. this one had promise, though at $8-9 bucks a pop, it's overpriced. nice smell and look. smooth too. but the combo of spicy floral hops and dark fruit malts just doesn't quite work for me in this one. an ok beer at a premium.

It pours a very dark-brown/black, non-transparent, with thick light brown head and copious lacing. An aroma of rich, roasted chocolatey malts, hops, grapefruit, pine, light raisin, and spiciness. The mouthfeel is smooth, silky, and rich. Flavors of roasted chocolately malts, hops, citrus, roasted nuts, coffee, raisin, light molasses. and spices. Excellent! .. it feels like an IPA and stout mixed.

22oz bottle. Pours a dark brown black with a big creamy tan head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is roasted malts, cola and some black licorice.
The flavor is roasted malts and black licorice with a little chocolate and molasses leading to a big charred / roasted bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full with smooth carbonation.
Overall, it seems like more of a hoppy stout to me than a black IPA. Instead of fruity hops, I get the roasted bitterness.
