Labeled as a Dark Gold Ale, a Belgiun Ale by Brouewerij Roman, rather than a BSA. Way too much carbonation and a long wait for the 4 finger head to go down to 2. Maybe a Chimay glass or the like would have made a difference, but I used my Allagash stemmed glass for lack of the other. The taste is sweet, malty, slightly fruity, with a hint of sour. Finally a thin cap and good lacing almost all the way down. I saved the last two fingers in the bottle till the glass was about done as per the carton advice. I got distracted and the beer had a chance to sit and warm up in the glass, as well as the bottle. Pouring the rest of the bottle into the glass revived the head, but not overly so. It's probably abou 50-55 degrees now, the carbonation went down, but the taste intensified in a good way and I was able to savor the last third of the glass. I started every bottle cold, not really liking the beer and finished it with a better attitude towards it. In the future, I should uncap the bottle and let it sit to warm and de-carbonate before pouring and consuming. This one is fermented a second time in the bottle, so that last pour has some yeastiness but not a bad taste.

750 ml caged and corked bottle. Poured in the original Adriaen Brouwer chalice a clear and dark-brown with reddish tones coloured BSA with a minimum half a finger tan foamy head that had almost no retention and some micro bubbles. Low carbonation. No lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, powerful dark fruits, raisins, plums, riped raspberries, strong vinoussy notes and floral hops. The flavour is caramel and roasted malts, dark fruits, raisins, plums, blackberries, redcurrant and a spicy touch, licorice. The mouthfeel is crispy, thick, light sirupy and sourish-bitter-sweet. The texture is oily. This full bodied BSA has a bitter and sweety finish, followed by a nice warming effect. For me, more a Flandern Oud Bruin ( Oudenaarde ) as a Begian Strong Ale, overall a superb and solid brew from the heart of the Oud Bruin region.

330 ml stubby bottle, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo. ABV is 8.5%. Brown colour, huge beige head. High (too high) level of carbonation, even in the mouth. Fairly strong aroma, very much a "typical Belgian dubbel": notes of brown malts, caramel, brown kandij sugar and mild spices. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, but is not too sweet. The hops are very moderate, I’d like some more. Still a decent and drinkable beer as it is.

Another offering from my beer mules who cart beer back to me from all over the world, thanks mom and dad!!!! Dark root beer body with a tall tan crown that won’t go away. Lacing is stupidly sticky. Yum yum yum this is one of the first styles I cut my teeth on when starting to drink craft beer but in recent years I have forgotten about it and this just may rekindle my love of the Belgian strong! But ya this smells good, sweet yeasty, perfect spice, mild banana, raisins and port. The aroma is fantastic. Taste also has high degrees of yum. Perfect sweetness it never gets sugary. I love the yeasty banana clove flavors. Great dark fruit presence of raisins , prunes and red wine. Hitting black cherry now and that is the greatest flavor of all. Yep this beer is good!

Bottled (from beerplanet.eu). Deep ambery brown colour with a mediumsized beige head. Aroma is raisins, mild spices, some berries as well as quite sweet malts. Flavour is sweet malts, some spicyness, mild raisins, some berries as well as some mild toffeeish notes. A rather wellbalanced and quite pleasant BSA. Also some mild sourish wooden notes in the finish.

A new addition at Binny's (Canadian distributers could learn a thing or two from Binny's when it comes to variety). While the beer is called dark gold, the colour is anything but....more of a brown colour with reddish hues. Sort of an abbey dubbel colour. Lots of sweet caramel and butterscotch in the aroma along with rpoasted malt and a floral bouquet of hops. Flavour is slightly sweet, and the alcohol coimes through a bit. A bitter finiosh tops it all off.

Pours a nice, slightly hazy, dark mahogany with a fairly thick, if not persistent, pale tan head. Aroma is fairly strong and mainly fruity, like a brandy or cider, with some grassy and malty hints. Flavor is fruity - mainly apple - and malty with hints of caramel, grass and brown sugar. Texture is milk-smooth and quite fizzy, leaving behind a nice tingle that lingers for a little while.

A Belgian Ale. Deep reddish brown colored ale. Big frothy textured tannish head rises above. Some hand time. Lacing is mostly a soapy thicj ringlet and clouds atop the body. Stron toffee and dark fruits in the nose. The tasting is much lighter. Fruit dominates with an undertone of sweet malt. A lightly effervescent with a medium creamy body. Good overall.
