Adnams The Bitter (Suffolk Strong Bitter)

500 ml capped bottle. Poured in a shaker pint glass an unfiltered and strong hazy burgundy-brown coloured Bitter with half a finger beige foamy head that had a short retention and tons of micro bubbles. Low carbonation. No lacing. The aroma is light roasted notes on a solid malty backbone, caramel, fruity, oranges, apples and earthy hops. The flavour is sweety grainy malts, biscuits, fruity, oranges, apples, notes of honey and a clear floral hoppy bitterness. The mouthfeel is slight crispy and quite thin.This light to medium bodied Bitter has a long fruity and floral hoppy bitter finish. A very pleasant and drinkable Bitter.

I was forunate to find this on hand pump at 2 different London pubs during my trip. It poored a light golden almost orange colored body. The taste was very smooth, almost creamy. A very solid bitter!

NorCal tasting July 07 - I don't know what happened to this beer. It had all the marks of a great beer until a drop hit your tongue and then it had this awful, tainted, bug spray character to it. Aroma was medium sweet, malty and touch earthy. Appearance was a rusty orange, smaller sized head. And as I said, the beer hits you and you think WTF! How could something this inviting be this bad? I will definitely want to try this again, because I refuse to believe that the beer can be this bad.

500 ml bottle, under its new name "Adnams The Bitter", bought at Ole Simon, Sandnes. Amber colour, large and lasting creamy off-white head. Moderate toffee aroma, hints of nuts and oak. Flavour is nutty with a distinct hoppy bite in the finish. Not bad.

pretty good brew, wasn't too sure about bitters but the local shop had their broadside on the tasting table and was impressed with it, and at the almost half price discount was too good to pass up. Very clear pour but GREAT lacing to the glass. Not as bitter as I had expected, new to the style no idea what the bitters refered too. Was a decent hoppiness to the brew, but am a big fan of hop flavor. overall an excellent beer, esp if the $2/500 ml was a deal.

This bitter pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is floral and earthy, hint of melon(?). A medium bodied bitter. Malts are caramel and toffee. Hops are earthy and floral. Nice carbonation. Good balance. Some raisins, brown sugar and melon. Nice session beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

This beer pours a murky brownish orange with a white head that dissapears quickly. The aroma is sweet grapes, vinegar. The mouthfeel is thin and has low carbonation. The flavor is weak, sweet grapes like a wine, very little hops and a molasis like flavor as it warms. It's cheap, but still not a bargain in my opinion.

Orange colour, small white head. Toffee, caramel, butter and grassy hops in aroma. Nutty caramel flavour, hints of fruit and toffee. Smooth finish. A bit thin, though.

Bottled. Orangeish colour with reddish hints, mediumsized thick creamy off-white head. Aroma is flowery and fruity hops. Flavour cooked vegetables "malty" and hops in finish. Not that special. Refreshing and quite easy to drink.

I’m usually suspicious of fancy packaging..the snazzy bottle this came in had me thinking that it enclosed another standard or unremarkable beer....I was wrong on this one. Pours a beautiful red-copper color like brewed tea....tight fluffy off white cap...medium carbonation. Lots to fill the olfactory senses here...complex...nutty yeasts over buttered-biscuit malts and lemon-peppered grassy hopping...wild complexity. The front of this ale carries itself well with a pronounced smooth buttery, buscuity malt tone with the hops showing up mid way to give good balance with a citusy twang that drys out the smooth finish...the bittering only comes in at the very end in the after taste. A wonerfully buttery smooth malt pronounced "bitter" that is not really "bitter" but drying in its finish. It’s satisfying without being heavy...a very well crafted English ale.
