Bock (January – March) is the first of our seasonal brews. It is brewed with Perle hops and pale and caramel malts. Our Bock is similar to a German Maibock in its high malt content, full body and slightly higher alcohol content. Abita Bock is a very popular brew, especially during our Mardi Gras season. Gruyére, Emmental and Swiss are nice cheese choices with Bock. Great with roasted beef or pork. Try it with Mexican food too.

Had as Mardi Gras Bock. Strong, malty aroma has good fruity and caramel notes, rather tempting. It pours a clear, somewhat dark golden amber with a fairly thick, pale golden-tan head that leaves some respectable lacing. Flavor has malty, apple, caramel and pear notes, nothing outstanding but still enjoyable. Smooth texture has above-average body and plenty of fizz. Throw me something! ;)

It pours a shiny copper with a fairly thick and foamy white head and copious lacing. A bready aroma of caramel malts, hops, orange and citrus, cinnnamon and gingerbread, and light spiciness. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, orange and citrus, gingerbread, and cinnamon and other spices. Excellent..

Biscut in the aroma and flavor along with some grain. Not a good representation of a bock, its a bit too light in color and flavor. Overall its drinkable, but let someone else buy it.

A pretty pour, medium golden hue and ample white head, but not the appearance I'd expect for the (purported) style. Slight maltiness in the nose, but nothing rich, again, not quite right for the style. Flavor is reasonably sweet and malty, but slightly astringent. It has a clinging mouthfeel, not unpleasant, so an extra point for that attribute. A drinkable beer, but overall, not a good example of a bock, thus my low scores. I picked it up to cover Louisiana on my state map, and because bock's in season. Won't revisit this brew again.

"2009" pours a crystal clear amber with a big white head. aromas seem nice, cinnamon, grapes, plums. and slight citrus. taste is ok with a lot of the same tastes as aromas. malt, grapes, hops, and brown sugar maybe. overall alot better this time. maybe it being a few months old helped.

Re-Rate - 13 Feb 2012: A bad 6-pk a few years ago? Maybe. Saw it and couldn't remember trying it, so I bought it. Actually pretty good this go-'round. A balanced hoppy sweetness with a smooth character and nice floral aroma. Not too heavy - crisp and clean. 2 Jan 2009: Heavy on the caramel and malt. Too heavy without the flavor and mothfeel that should accompany such. Headache in a bottle. Two of these and I was done for. Not good and will mostl likely not voluntarily try again.

A darker than average free spirited and easy appearance. Gallant carbonation. Taste is intriguing without being offensive. Meloncholy yet lighthearted. I don’t think this is on par with Rivertowne Last Chance Vienna Lager but it is ceratinly better than Penn Pilsner and Schell firebrick. Serene tranquil finish. Could easily drink again.

Aroma on this brew is a bit grainy with some caramel malt coming through as well as some mellow varieties of hops and is a bit sweet. Appearance is a light amber in color when held to the light with a medium-sized head on top that is well-carbonated and diminishes to a soapy lacing that sticks to the glass and is white in color. Mouthfeel is light-bodied with some less than average complexity and balance with a palate that is clean and a bit watery but not bad. Flavor is malty sweet with some light caramel coming through with an aftertaste that is of some slight raisin and a finish that is clean, crisp, and grainy. Overall, nothing special here but Abita never is but it is a easy-drinking bock but nothing like a true German variety stylistically and historically speaking.

I really liked the appearance of this brew...a deep amber color with a thick, creamy head. The aroma was rather strong and hoppy but the taste wasn't strong. It was rather pleasant and enjoyable-just a hint of hops.
