The monks of Abbaye de Floreffe chose the name Meilleure (The Best) for their strongest brown beer. Its bouquet and its taste are the result of a subtle mixture of special malts, fine hops and delicately added natural flavors.

Darker poir. Shows little alcohol. Aroma and flavor of anise, yeast and light spices. Every so slightly fruity (orange). Light, dry body. Not too shabby....

Clear dark ruby with small light brown lacing foam head. Aroma is caramel. Taste is unique, liquorice dominated, little bitter, not sweet. Aftertaste is little sweer, liquorice again. (Velp 201311)

330 ml bottle, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8%. Very dark brown colour, huge beige head. Strong spicy aroma, particularly strong notes of anise, also notes of caramel malts and brown kandij sugar. The flavour has notes of brown kandij sugar, brown malts and spices, dominant anise again. Not too sweet. Minimal hops.

Solid dark Belgian strong ale from Floreffe. Nice dark brown to almost black fluid holds up the tannish head in the snifter nicely before it melts into a thin layer of lace. Bold malty aromas waft from the confines. On the buds, there is much happening, including strong flavors of alcohol, spice, wood, citrus, nuts, brown sugar, figs and raisins. If there was any anise detected, it was very slight and in the finish. I would definitely order this one again. Nice work, Floreffe. God, I love Belgian brew!

Poured out black, nearly opaque. The aroma was fruity and malty. It did not scream out "coriander" which was not surprise, since they say it has anise and orange peel. It was spicy and attractive to the nose. The flavor was big and malty and a little bit of bite; the anise and orange peel are discernable. The flavor was a bit more bitter than I expected from the nose. It seems to leave a bit of thick aftertaste coat on the tongue.

Dark reddish/brown/amberish colour with big fluffy beige head, which sinks to one mediumsized creamy thick head in a few minutes. Aroma is caramel, burn sugar and some malts in it. Flavour is caramel malts, burnt sugar, slight raisins and alcohol. The finish gets grassy and hayish hops. A very good brew. Hides it's ABV very well.

Came in a 8-pack gift set at the SAQ. Pours a real deep brown colour (almost black) with red highlights. The head is big, creamy, tanned, has great retention and leaves good lacing all-around. Highly carbonated. The nose is quite fruity with plum, and has some chocolate and alcohol. Smooth with a mild creamy mouthfeel. The taste is what the aromas give out. Dark fruits, chocolate, but not overall sweet. More on the dry-bitter side with notes of coffee. Nice complex brew from this brewery that is not known to be like that.

Bottle: Poured a deep burgundy color ale with a super huge off-white foamy head with perfect retention. Aroma of sweet malt with some light spices (which may include some pepper and some anis). Taste is quite sweet probably from the candi sugar with some spices. Hops are clearly quite subtle and even the yeast is subdued (I would have preferred if it could have brought more character to this beer. Body is above average but could be a bit more full. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall, a very good Belgian ale and probably one of the finest product from this brewer.
