Norwegian Christmas beers are brewed in the original strong (appr. 6,2% ABV) and a watered down (appr. 4,5%) version. Make sure you get the strong versions (applies to all breweries) - they are just so much better! Aass is the best of them all. Spicy, caramelly, rich and rounded flavour that goes well with traditional Scandinavian Christmas fare.

If you like bready malts with lots of caramel on top, then grab an Aass. This one poured a translucent brown color with a small head that thinned immediately. The lacing was weak. Aromas of cherries, yeast, bread, and caramel. Caramel was the bulk of the flavor with breadiness, light yeast, and spices underneath. The finish was somewhat thin, acidic, and bitter. An interesting concoction, but not my cup of tea (or beer).

looks pretty damn tasty..nice 3.4 inch of pure cream on top of an evil looking ruby/maroon..the aroma was a malty bready slightly spicy concoction..malty, metallic, bready flavors..no hop profile at all..just a bunch of semi-creamy malts..but it bores me.

A friend of mine had a few selections of this beer (Juleøl klasse D) and generously shared a couple with me. I thought it was an odd combination of a belgian style ale and a bottle of liquified dried fruit (well then it wouldn't be dried fruit anymore would it) maybe reconstituted dried fruit. At any rate, it wasn't too bad, I think it was an old bottle that doesn't age well... poured nicely with a large pink head and a ruby colored body, decent flavor of oak and malts. Hmm, interesting.

Dark brown color, large head. Dark malts. Light tasting, light bodied. Light malt and hops. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is malty and slightly bitter.

Very nice holiday beer. Slightly roasty and full bodied.

This holiday beer is hoppy to the nose followed by malt. The flavor is a little more on the malty side but a good amount of hops balance. The dark color and fairly creamy head was nice. The beer is fairly smoothe to the tongue with a medium-full mouthfeel. Another good Aass beer.
