51 5e Baron Two Tales Light Canada Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Clean, light golden colour, bright with a nice frothy white cap, decent stay and light lacing left. Fresh Pils aromas with the spicy, cereal malts and herbal hoppiness. The taste continues the spiciness with some decent grassiness lingering. Originally, when I saw the word "Light", I expected 4% ABV, but just noticed it was 2.5% - like Nano beers. If I did not know, I really would think this is a normal 5% beer with everything you want in a Pilsner. Quite a nicely brewed lower alcohol Pils brew without lacking character.

52 Brasserie du Bas-Canada Substance BA Canada Imperial Stout 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

750ml bottle that pours a real dark brown, almost black colour with no highlights seen. Dark mocha-coloured head that fizzes away quickly, not leaving any lace. The first thing I get is bag coconut smell, and tasted first as well. The cacao is well-balanced with the vanilla to not be overpowering. Hints of wood and soy sauce from the Bourbon, again well-blended with the rest. Glad this one is not overly rich, and the finish is lightly dry, and not syrupy as it would seem from the get-go - as the mouthfeel is slick and oily. Just a tad boozy, lingering, kind of warming. Quite a nice coconuty, Imperial Stout with a touch of chocolate, Bourbon and vanilla.

53 À La Dérive Boathouse IPA 008 Canada IPA 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

After having their Boathouse #7 - lets try their brand new #8. Golden-amber colour with a fluffy-soapy whitish head, lasting a little more than the previous, and a touch more lacing left. Citrus hop nose with a tad alcohol, bitterness, oats and grassiness. More juicy than #7 already. This one seems to continue in the path of the series, maybe why the Eclipse hops were written on their site, but El Dorade is showing on the label of the can. This one has the citrus, but not that zing, zesty, sting #7 had. Another juicy, refreshing DDH IPA that fits the bill.

54 À La Dérive Boathouse IPA 007 Canada IPA 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Hazy golden colour with a smaller, bubbly white cap not lasting as long as usual, and minimal soapy lacing. The nose seems more drying, but the mouthfeel is not. Very wet and just a touch of dryness is left. It does build, but in a thin way. The orange and grapefruit of the Amarillo hops are felt, but milder. It is like citrus zest is left on the tongue, but very lightly, and a tad tart. A little sting-spiciness lingers. I think the Eclipse hops is what I am not a fan of in Cold IPAs, and makes this one - not my favourite.

55 Le Naufrageur Brigantin Canada Spiced Beer 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Last bottle found in a store - best before 2024 JL18, lot# 1299. Unfiltered with a bunch of tiny particles floating around, an amber colour. A nice creamyish-frothy warm-beige head that stays a nice time, leaving creamy-foamy lacing all-around. Peppery aromas over decent malts that are fruity and mildly sweet. Getting a little chocolate malts in there. The spiciness is present in the taste, but not to burn your mouth. A wet mouthfeel with just a tad dryness in the finish. Nothing syrupy as well. A nice, refreshing amber ale with some nice notes of pepper spiciness.

56 Mille-Îles Sabro Juicy IPA Canada IPA 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Hazy golden colour with a big warm off-white head, great retention and patches of soapy lacing left. The fruitiness of tangerines from the Sabro comes out softly in the nose. Citrus peel comes out eventually. The mouthfeel is on the thinner side with the alcohol well-hidden, and mostly juicy with a touch dryness in the end. Lots of citrus in the flavours, juicy, but more on the zesty side, with a light warming-bitterness. A pretty good lightly-bodied, drying, juicy and zesty IPA.

57 Le Ketch Delta Kold Double IPA Canada Imperial IPA 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

First from this brewery, and this one won one of the best Canadian Double IPA. Hazy, golden-orange with an off-white frothy-foamy head that stays a while, and some thick patches of lacing are left. Oranges in the nose at first, but some mild grassiness does come out, with hints of alcohol and dry white wine (among other fruitiness) from the Kölsch yeast. Sediments on the smaller scale are falling to the bottom as it pours some more. The mouthfeel is not too thick, wet enough with a drying finish, getting thinner. Fruity flavours of citrus zest, light grapes and decent grassy-bitterness in the end. Also getting some pineapple notes in the taste eventually from the Simcoe hops. Not the juiciest Imperial IPA, but still quite fruity with touch of dry white wine.

58 Brasserie du Bas-Canada Duplex Canada Imperial IPA 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

Hazy golden-orange colour with a slightly off-white head, good stay and tons of sticky lacing. Citrus aromas with some light sweetening from the oats, hints of peach, manderin with a tad alcohol. The taste shows a touch more peaches, but not on the sweet side. Balanced by some mild bitterness. The dryness is even milder it seems. Quite a beautiful juicy, peachy Double IPA that goes down so well - with less bitterness, less dryness than most of this style.

59 Nano Cinco / Brasserie Générale Puzzle Canada Imperial IPA 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Hazy with tiny particles looking like spices floating around. Golden-orange colour with a white frothy head, good retention for such a high alcohol content and some soapy, wet lacing left. Big orange juice aroma, with citrus zest, some grassy bitterness and mild alcohol. The mouthfeel is smooth, juicy with a touch warming and some light bitterness-dryness lingering. A nice juicy, Triple IPA with some warming, bitter and dry notes.

60 Le Castor Riwaka Pale Canada American Pale Ale 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Clean, golden colour with a smaller, off-white frothy head, decent stay and leaving spots of foamy lacing. Getting some milky-vinous aromas with notes of raisins, white grapes and a touch of citrus. The grapes continue in the taste with some pink grapefruit notes. The mouthfeel is crisp and the drying is milder in this one. Gets a slight hazed as it pours and passion fruit flavours do come out. An easy Pale Ale with lots of fruitiness, and less grassiness.

61 Vox Populi Vox Pop IPA - Enigma, Nelson Sauvin & Hallertau Blanc Canada IPA 3.7

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

Hazy golden-yellow colour with a frothy-soapy white cap, decent stay and foamy spots left on the glass. Lemon zest aromas with orange juice notes, raisins and other fruity hints. The Sauvignon Blanc comes out in the taste, more than the raisins felt in the nose. Still, lots of citrus in the flavours. Juicy mouthfeel with just a nice touch of building dryness,, and tad tart left on the tongue.

62 Helm Sweet Brown Baby Jesus Canada Brown Ale 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

A very slight haze, brown-amber colour with golden highlights. The head is frothy, light-beige with good retention and thick, creamyish lacing. Chocolate malt aromas with a touch of caramel malt, and some decent grassy hops to conclude. The mouthfeel is crisp with a good drying finish. Toasty malt flavours with a tad caramel and the hops well-blending in the end. A pretty good, hoppier Brown Ale with a touch more alcohol that does the job.

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

A light haze from the tiny, transparent particles floating around. The head is white, frothy with decent stay, and leaving small spots of soapy lacing. Grassy hop aromas with a straw malt base and a touch of caramel, citrus notes. The taste shows a nice balance of grassiness with a blend of citrusy hops, over the maltiness. Some nice mild bitterness and dryness occurs in the end. An easy-drinking Double IPA with nicely balanced grassy hops and a tad citrus.

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Clean, light golden colour with a white frothy head, good stay and leaving foamy lacing spots. Fresh lime juices and zest in the aromas. The taste shows the lime juice and peel, with some light sourness and salitness. The wet mouthfeel is on the light body side and a tad tart is left. Quite a refreshing, lighter Gose with beautiful limes.

Citrus zest aromas with a touch of wax (older can) and a touch of straw malt base. The taste continues with the same with some light tart left on the tongue. A little dry with lemon peel. Hazy golden-yellow colour with a white cap, decent stay and light lacing spots. Orange juice nose with a touch of piney notes, a tad bubblegum, berries, alcohol and tropical fruits. 67 L'Apothicaire Impérial Stout Canada Imperial Stout 3.3

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Second of two Imperial Stout tonight (the other being Beauregard). Pours a dark brown colour with ruby highlights, a big frothy-creamy beige head, good retention and thicker streaks of lacing left. Pretty much roasted malt nose, with maybe a tad nuttiness, banana and coffee. After breathing, alcohol does come out in the aromas, and continues into the flavours. Roasted barley, some grassy hops creating a mild building dryness. Nothing special here, but does the job of an Imperial Stout - and preferred the first one.

68 Beauregard Stout Impérial Canada Imperial Stout 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

First of two 355ml cans of Imperial Stout to start the night. This one pours a black-looking colour with some ruby highlights, a nice frothy light-mocha coloured head, becoming creamy, lasting a decent time and thin, wet lacing left. Aromas of burnt barley with a touch of smokiness, some plums, molasses and hints of coffee. The mouthfeel is smooth, silky, oily with a building dryness, and bitterness eventually coming out. Roasted malt base flavours with a tad anise, molasses and grassiness. Quite a slick, easy-drinking stronger Imperial Stout with enough dry-bitter notes.

69 Beauregard Tiramisu Canada Imperial Stout 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

355ml can that pours a clean golden colour with a big creamy, whitish head, long lasting and leaving good lacing. Big coffee roasted grain aromas over some mild malty notes and hints of vanilla. The taste shows a little more the sweetness of the malts and lactose. A tad chocolate that lingers. The mouthfeel is on the thicker side with some decent light hops drying things a touch. Some tad bitterness and the coffee is felt as it goes. A pretty good white stout with the coffee-tiramisu notes.

70 Helm Prince-Arthur Canada Belgian Ale 3.7

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

A fairly clean golden-amber colour with a small off-white head, average stay and light lace. Spicy, rye-like grains, alcohol warming, with some hoppy bitterness, hints of wheat-banana for aromas. The cloves come out a little more in the taste, but still blends well with the barley, tad wheat and mild grassiness. A nice stronger Belgian amber beer that different, with only cloves as a spice in here.

71 L'Apothicaire Dubbel Canada Abbey Dubbel 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Hazy amber colour with a golden hue, a light-beige head, frothy, bubbly with decent retention and leaving small spots on the glass. Toasted malt base aromas with some nice spices, hints of wheat-banana, mineral water that come out after breathing. The taste is a blend of the banana notes, spices and mild grassy hops. The mouthfeel is on the thicker side, but not syrupy, as the hops create a nice drying finish. The spiciness and grassiness lightly lingers. A touch of brown sugar and caramel all-around. Quite an easy-drinking Dubbel on the lower alcohol side, but still lots going on.

72 Hill Farmstead Riwaka American Pale Ale United States American Black Ale 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Can from the brewery - Easter 2024 trip, that pours a lightly hazy golden-amber colour with a frothy-bubbly white cap, long lasting with some soapy lacing left. Not sure why, but I am getting lots of Nelson Sauvin notes, rather than Riwaka. That nutty-grapeness I really like, not the grapefruit I am suppose to get. Maybe a bit of kumquat that is suppose to be. The mango of the Riwaka comes out in the taste with citrusy zest hints. Quite juicy with just enough building dryness to not be too thick. Still, vinous notes that I really enjoy the Sauvin hops. No matter what, this is a good APA.

Can from the brewery - Easter 2024 trip. Hazy enough, golden-yellow colour with an orange hue. A white frothy head, good retention and some nice, thick foamy lacing streaks. Quite nice fruitiness in the aromas with mango notes from the HBC 586 and white grapes from the Phantasm. The Nelson Sauvin-style hoppiness continues in the taste with the Sauvignon Blanc notes and some mild grassiness lingering, drying. Hints of guava, citrus. Quite a nice juicy IPA with vinous, citrusy notes and just enough dryness.

74 Hill Farmstead Clover United States Saison 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

Bottle ($95 US) from the brewery - Easter 2024 trip with a waxed cap. Lightly hazy, a white small head, average retention and a little lacing spots left on the glass. Funky, sour aromas with a touch of citrus, oak woodiness giving vanilla notes. The mouthfeel is wet with a puckering sourness, mild dryness and tart left on the tongue. Lots of fruits in the taste (citrus, stone fruits, tropical fruits) and the hints of wood-vanilla. Very nice to try this limited-to-one bottle per customer, and probably the most expensive beer I have... and will ever purchase.

Mixed 12-pack of Long Trail cans in Vermont - Easter 2024 trip. Hazy, orangy with golden highlights, a frothy white cap, good stay and leaving thick soapy lacing. Orange juice aromas with tropical fruit notes, and hints of pine. Smooth mouthfeel with a touch of drying end. A decent blend of citrus juices, zest and a piney tad bitter hoppiness. Not a bad hazy, juicy IPA with a mild pine-bitterness West Coast style added.
