101 5e Baron Laurel Canyon Canada IPA 3.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Fairly clean, golden colour with a wam off-white frothy head, good stay and some nice streaks of foamy lacing left. Citrus notes in the aromas with a caramel base and herbal hints. The mouthfeel is kind of silky, with some soft dryness in the finish. Some bitter-alcohol touch comes out in the nose eventually. The flavours shows a nice balance between fruitiness, bitterness, caramel and grassiness. A good American IPA - classic rock 'n roll.

102 5e Baron Prairies (fût de Rye) Canada Imperial Stout 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Celebrating my 100th review from 5e Baron, with my first visit to their brewpub. Use to go a lot in the early 2000s as l'Autre Oeil pub. This Imperial Stout in rye barrel pours a dark brown colour, almost black with a mocha-coloured head, leaving some light lacing spots. Roasted malt nose with woodiness, prunes and hints of molasses. Lightly silky, not too thick and fairly dry in the finish. Roasted barley flavour with a lot of grassiness and a touch of rye that lingers nicely. A good hopped-up Imperial Stout with some nice woody-spicy rye notes. Here's to the next 100 reviews!

103 La Souche Cry-O-Loup (Édition Anglaise) Canada Imperial IPA 3.7

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Can that pours a hazy golden colour with amber hue, with a frothy white cap, average stay and some light lace left. Both of the English hops used here (Harlequin, Olicana) give out the passionfruit in the nose and taste. Mild aromas of pineapples, mango and oranges. The flavours give out a touch more grassiness with the fruits, lingering some dryness and greener hops. A nice Double NEIPA with passionfruit, mango, pineapple, grapefruit, peach - but blended with fairly big grassy hops to balance the fruitiness-dryness.

104 Helm Dark Clark Canada Schwarzbier 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Pours a darker brown colour, clean, with ruby-amber highlights. The head is creamyish, fluffy, light beige with good retention and leaving thick frothy lacing. Roasted barley aromas with hints of smokiness, molasses. The roasted malt is blended with grassy hops that lingers. The mouthfeel is wet, with a building, late dryness. Not a bad Schwarzbier with a touch more hoppiness in the mouth.

105 Helm St-Joseph Canada Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Lightly hazed, golden colour with an amber hue. The head is white, frothy, decent lasting and leaving nice lacing. Mild citrus aromas with yeast notes, hints of berries and tropical fruits. Some decent herbal touches in the taste that give a nice drying finish. Straw malt base, a tad spiciness, and some good citrus zest. Quite a lot going one for a 4% ABV brew. - nicely done.

106 Boréale Grand Moineau Canada IPA 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

This 100% hopped Riwaka NEIPA is hazy, golden with amber hues, a white creamy-frothy head, good retention and nice thick, foamy lacing. Citrus, tropical fruits and stone fruits are present in the aromas. Some mild piney notes in the taste, but mostly juicy, fruity. Some hints of white wine and a floral touch. Just a tad dryness in the finish, so a refreshing, juicy NEIPA with the beautiful New Zealand Riwaka hops.

107 Menaud Myrique Canada Witbier 3.5

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Hazed, golden colour with an amber hue. A fizzy off-white head, dissipating quick enough and no more than a tiny ring is left around the brew. Bready aromas with some notes of citrus, spices, apples, wood and pears. The mouthfeel and taste are a little milder. Still, nice spices, tea-notes and light fruitiness. Quite a unique, wild plant-based beer that is interesting to try.

108 La Souche / Nano Cinco Loup des Saules (édition Nano Cinco) Canada IPA 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Hazy golden-yellow colour with a frothy white cap, average retention and tiny specs left on the glass. Lemon zest aromas with a touch of alcohol-bitterness. The flavours are quite juicy. Juicier than expected from the nose. The end has a soft, building dryness with that zestiness, but nowhere bitter. Oranges juice, tropical fruits and hints of white wine - just wish the Nelson Sauvin was a little punchier. Overall, a full juicy, citrusy, lightly vinous NEIPA with a tad alcohol warming.

109 Noctem Un Chat Un Chat Canada Imperial IPA 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Hazy golden colour with an off-white head, average stay and some light spots of lacing. Big tropical fruit aromas with hints of farm smell (grassy, earthy). The taste is quite fruity, somewhat sweet, but with a decent drying, hoppiness cutting the richness. Mango, tangerines, hints of pineapples. Quite a good brew that is very fruity for a Double IPA.

110 Menaud Genévrier Canada Ale 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Lightly hazed, amber colour with a golden highlight. The head is beige, frothy, decent lasting with some foamy streaks of lacing. Getting some nice spices over the darker malt base of rye, barley, and with time, hints of bananas from the wheat, woody notes. Berries come out in the taste over the bananas, wood, and a nice milder blend of spices and rye-barley. Maybe a touch too much banana-wheat in the flavours - even the tart from peel is felt. Quite an interesting amberish ale with a nice mix of rye, bananas, spices and a tad juniper.

111 Gallicus Pils d'Inspiration Italienne (Sauvignon Blanc) Canada Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Slightly hazed, unfiltered golden colour with a fizzy-bubbly white head, average lasting and leaving a bit of foamy lacing spots. Found these two older cans of Gallicus Pils (original and this one in barrel of Sauvignon Blanc). Apple, pear aromas. These two fruits continue in the taste and the oak barrel really comes out with the vanilla-wood notes. Hints of grapes. Quite a nice oaked Pilsner - hope I can try a fresh one, one day.

112 Boréale / Sir John 2 Fois N'est Pas Coutume Canada Imperial IPA 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

Hazy golden-orange colour with a beautiful, frothy-creamy white cap, good retention and loads of sticky-foamy lacing. Grassy hop aromas with a blend of citrus zest, their juices and hints of coconut. Wet mouthfeel with just enough drying in the finish, but not overly to be still refreshing. Orange juice flavours with a touch of tropical fruits, and some herbal notes. Some particles come out at last pour. Quite a nice, refreshing, juicy, not-too-dry Double NEIPA brew.

113 Brasserie du Bas-Canada Kaiju Canada Imperial IPA 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

Very hazy, golden-orange colour with a big creamy-frothy warm, off-white head, very long retention and nice creamy, full lacing. Beautiful fruity aromas of tropical fruits, wine grapes, citrus, apples, oats and even hints of vanilla. Very well-hidden alcohol, great juiciness and just a touch of dryness-bitterness. So fruity with blending herbal flavours. Nectarines, oranges, tropical fruits, apples and stone fruits. One of the easiest-drinking 10% ABV Triple IPA I have had - so juicy!!

114 Unibroue Blanche de Chambly Abricot Canada Witbier 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Fairly clean, golden colour with an amber hue, a big white creamy head, good retention and lots of thicker, creamier lacing streaks. A fruity nose with the apricot essence, over the spicy Witbier base. The taste has the apricots, but milder, not as sweet. This shows a bit more of the Blanche de Chambly base. Gets a little hazier as it pours. Not a bad fruity, Witbier, but not one I would have two in a row.

115 Helm Sgt. Pepper Canada Saison 3.7

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Fairly clean, light golden-yellow colour with a frothy white head, good retention and thick foamy lacing. Peppery aromas over lemon zest, some Belgian-Saison yeast and a nice herbal touch. The pink pepper has a different feel in the taste, than black pepper. Blends smoother with the lemon peel-tart, herbs and yeast. An interesting lower alcohol Saison with good bitterness, dryness and a tad peppery.

116 Hill Farmstead Arthur (Cascade Dry-Hopped) United States Saison 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

Bottle purchased at the brewery in 2023 - written on label "Bottle conditioning since October 26, 2022. Pours a bright golden-yellow that gets hazier by the pour. The white head is huge, creamy-like, with very long retention and thick, soapy-foamy lacing sticking to the glass, and not coming down. Funky aromas with more sourness at first, but some lemon zest came and balance things, with the Saison yeast. Some sourness, some earthiness, some citrus peel and Saison yeast in the flavours. A little dryer in the finish with the Cascade dry-hopping and nice herbal notes all-around. A pretty nice touch on the Classic Arthur, with a great hop to just alter the brew enough.

117 Ippon Ichigo Canada Gose 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

A deep amber colour, lightly unfiltered, with a warm, light-beige head, decent stay and some decent lacing. Fresh strawberry aromas over fruity malts, caramel notes and hints of salt. Quite nice flavours with a good blend of strawberries, mild sourness and a touch of saltiness. A smooth, a little silky mouthfeel with a tad tart left on the tongue, and some dryness. A very well-brewed strawberry Gose that goes down nicely.

118 Le Corsaire Oreille de Crisse Canada Amber Ale 3.5

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

A slight haze created by a bunch of tiny, transparent particles floating around. Golden-amber colour with an off-white head, average stay and a ring left on the brew. An amber beer nose with the fruity malts, decent grassy hops and then, some smoked wood and hints of maple. This fruitiness (apples), smokiness (burnt wood) and tad maple sap, herbal notes continues in the taste. Some decent drying finish. A caramel malt base mildly all the way. An interesting Amber Ale with a touch of the maple shack.

119 L'Apothicaire Stout aux Huîtres Canada Oyster Stout 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Dark brown colour with copper-ruby highlights, a warm-mocha coloured head, good stay and foamy lacing left. Smoked wood, burnt barley and hints of sea water, oysters in the nose. Smooth, oily mouthfeel, not too thick and decent building dryness. Not getting much oyster flavours - only roasted malts and hops. Too bad, as was a decent start in the aromas.

120 Ras L'Bock L'An 8000 Canada Coffee Stout 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Aromas of burnt coffee grains, smoked wood, roasted malts and eventually - some mild hop grassiness. Brown colour with ruby-copper highlights, and warm-beige head, decent stay and nice creamyish lacing. The mouthfeel is smooth, then tart from the coffee appears on the tongue and hoppy dryness lingers. Burnt barley, coffee flavours with a touch of hops. A pretty decent coffee stout for 4.5% ABV. and good for Mononc'.

121 Muskoka Winter Beard Nitro Latte Stout Canada Coffee Stout 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7

Dark brown colour with a little haze, some amber-copper highlights. The nitro head is creamy, warm-beige, very long lasting and some mild, soapy spots on the glass. Big vanilla essences for aromas at first pour, then calms down letting some coffee notes breathe over the roasted barley. Smooth mouthfeel, a little oily, a little silky with a light drying finish. Not the freshest can, so did not get the cascade effect, and coffee is quite mild in the flavours.

122 Bellwoods A Stout With Coffee Canada Coffee Stout 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Sam James Coffee Bar version that pours a dark brown colour with copper-ruby highlights. The head is huge, creamyish, with good retention and thick creamy lacing left. Lots of molasses, plums, dates at first in the nose, with the coffee eventually coming out. The roasted coffee grains shine at this point over the mild roasted malts, hints of dark fruits. The mouthfeel is silky, smooth, not the thickest, nor the driest. The coffee is milder in the taste, blending with the burnt barley and some light grassy-hops lingering in the finish. It gets a touch dryer near the end. Not a bad coffee stout, but nothing exceptional.

123 L'Apothicaire Pale Ale Belge Canada Belgian Ale 3.7

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

A slight hazed, golden-amber colour with an off-white head, decent stay and some full creamy lacing. Fresh herbal aromas with hints of mint, over the caramel malts. The minty-herbal note continues into the taste with a drying finish. Some mild fruitiness, piney touch and even Belgian yeast. This gives a tad spiciness. Quite a nice Pale Ale with that Belgian feel.

124 Gallicus Pils d'Inspiration Italienne Canada Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.7

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Hazed golden colour with a bunch of particles through it, lively carbonation, a frothy-bubbly white head, good stay and some decent patches of lacing. White grapes, wine aromas over mild straw malts and yeast. The taste reminds me more of the Pilsner style with good dryness in the end. Good hop grassiness over the straw malts and hints of spiciness from the Saaz. Not a bad Italian Pilsner with a Nelson Sauvin nose.

125 Gallicus Rum Canada Baltic Porter 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights, a warm beige head, decent stay and some nice lace spots and streaks. Getting a bunch of coconut in the nose. over the roasted barley adding lots of fine sweetness that balances the flavours. The taste blend the coconut notes with the mild rum flavours, hints of molasses, roasted malts and spices. Reminds me of the great Bas-Canada dessert Imperial Stouts, but because being a Baltic Porter, not as thick in the mouth. Quite a beautiful brew!
