151 Gallicus London Calling Canada Brown Ale 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

Clean amber colour with a light beige bubbly head, decent stay and lots of soapy lacing spots left. The aromas remind me of a Pilsner with the spiciness, maltiness and the amber side of this beer brings some fruitiness to mix it all. The taste has a touch of sourness with the darker-fruity malts. No spicy notes here though. A tad grass-herbal which comes out eventually. Hints of wheat-bananas all-around. Get a little hazed as it pours. Not sure if infection in this one, but probably my least favourite from this brewery.

152 À Outrance Roastradamus (sans café) Canada Stout 3.5

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7

After having the coffee version of this stout, now having this one. The big difference is we do not get the coffee in the aromas. Same dark brown colour with copper highlights, bubbly mocha-coloured head and light soapy lacing. Roasted malts we get in the nose with some mild dark fruits and molasses. Wet mouthfeel again with a touch of dryness, tartiness that eventually builds. Roasted malt flavours, watery, not intense, nor thick. An easy-drinking, kind of refreshing standard stout that is fine.

153 À Outrance Roastradamus (avec café) Canada Coffee Stout 3.7

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Pours a dark brown colour with some copper highlights, a big bubbly-foamy, mocha-coloured head, decent lasting and some light soapy spots left on the glass. Coffee aromas over the roasted malts base, hints of molasses and nuttiness. Wet mouthfeel, more on the light-bodied side with just enough dryness, tart left on the tongue. Milder flavours of coffee blending with the roasted barley, dark fruit notes and a tad molasses. A refreshing, easy-drinking coffee stout that goes down well for 5.9% ABV.

154 Brasserie du Bas-Canada Fragmentaire Canada American Barleywine 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Pours a dark brown colour with a ruby-copper highlights with a smaller mocha-coloured head, still lasting a while and leaving a nice ring around the brew. Wood, alcohol, dark fruits, a touch of Bourbon, chocolate. The mouthfeel is slick, a tad oily, but not overly thick. Fruit cake flavours with roasted malts, booze with light warming, woodiness lingering. Nice to have a Barleywine in this bunch of release (late 2023), with the Bourbon - that is not an Imperial Stout. Christmas fruit cake liquid.

155 Brasserie du Bas-Canada Facettes Canada Imperial Stout 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Last 750ml bottle from this past release near the end of 2023. Pours a real dark brown colour, almost black with no highlights seen, a bubbly-soapy mocha-coloured head, decent stay leaving some bubbles on top. Soy and molasses in the nose at first, with some chocolate notes that come out and hints of vanilla. Coconut flavours really come out in the mouth. A little thick in the mouthfeel, a little oily, but goes down nicely. Decent bitterness and with a building dryness. Nice mild spices do come out with time. A nice Imperial Stout that has the Bourbon well-blended with a coconut feel all-around.

156 Riverbend Vin d'Orge Canada English Barleywine 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Hazy amber colour with some golden highlights, a big warm, light-beige frothy head, very long lasting and leaving nice foamy lacing. Big dark fruits in the aromas at first, then calming down and releasing the caramel malt base, hints of wax, hops. The hops do come out on top in the taste with some nice grassiness, over the caramel malts and some good lingering dryness. Cereal grains and hay come out in the nose with time. Getting more bitter as you drink. A good American Barleywine, as pretty hoppy, but all well-blended with the malt, and really not too sweet.

157 La Chouape Hors Série Cath No. 2 Canada IPA 3.3

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Hazed, golden colour with a frothy-bubbly white cap, average stay and some streaks of tiny-bubbled foam lacing. Lemon zest over mild orange juice and oats. Juicy, citrus flavours with some light dryness in the end. Nothing fancy here, but a decent, juicy IPA.

158 La Barberie Ogunquit 3000 Canada IPA 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Pours a hazy, golden colour with a frothy warmish-white head, decent stay and some light soapy spots on the glass. Citrus zest aromas, mostly from lemons with a bit of oranges, and their juice. Juicy mouthfeel that is wet with just a touch of dryness in the end. Orange juice flavours with the lemon peel and a tad oats. An easy-drinking, juicy, refreshing NEIPA that is nice to start with for those who have not had this style before.

159 La Souche 10e Avenue Canada Abbey Quadrupel 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Fairly clean, amber colour with golden highlights, a smaller light-beige head, average stay and a little lacing. Wheat aromas giving a touch of bananas, some dates, caramel malts, alcohol, hints of Belgian yeast and hops. The taste shows a lot of the same, but getting some rusty feel found in some Rousse beers. A tad warming and not as much dark fruits as expected - which is fine with me. The flavours seem to be adjusting nicely as it breathes. An easier-drinking Quad that does the job.

160 McAuslan McAdam Cidre Urbain aux Poires Canada Cider 2.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

Clean, golden colour with a fizzy white cap, and a small ring left around the brew. Apple juice aromas with just a hints of pears. The taste is quite sweet in this one. I do not remember being this way for the other three in this cider series. Again, not much pear in the flavours, just really sweet, a little thicker apple juice. You can almost the residual sugar left on the glass. Goes down fine, but much preferred the other ones.

161 Simple Malt Azur Canada Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Lightly hazy, light-golden colour with a frothy white head, decent stay and lacing. Light citrusy hops with mild spicy malts and a fresh herbal touch. The taste is a tad on the grassy side with the refreshing malts. Some light grassy-herbal note that lingers on the tongue. Gets even hazier near the last pour. This is quite a decent, refreshing, hoppy Pilsner - better balanced than their entry-level Pils Bavaroise I had yesterday (even if this one is way outdated). Still tastes fresh!

162 La Souche Triple Limoiloise Canada Imperial IPA 3.9

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Clean golden colour with a nice frothy-creamy-bubbly warm off-white head, good retention, leaving beautiful creamy-bubbly lacing. West Coast style aromas, blending better the grassiness and caramel malts, as higher alcohol content. Flavours of bitter grassy-hops with some sweetish caramel malts, piney notes and a nice warming finish. Some nice bitterness on the smooth side lingers. Quite a nice Triple West Coast IPA that warms up this cold winter night.

163 Beer Nerds California IPA Canada IPA 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Definitely on the West Coast IPA side as Cali. A slight hazed golden colour with a frothy-creamy white cap, good retention and nice lacing. Grassy hops aromas over the caramel malts. Some juicy notes of East Coast do come out in the taste with orange juice, tangerine and other tropical fruit juiciness. Smooth, lightly oily mouthfeel with a mild building drying finish. Quite a nice IPA with the blend of both coasts.

164 Simple Malt Gamme TLJ - Blanche Classique Canada Witbier 3.3

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

A slight haze, golden colour with an off-white bubbly-fizzy head that does not last as long as expected, and just a small ring is left - no lacing. Orange peel aromas with some fruity malts and hints of grassy hops. The mouthfeel is quite light, wet with just a tad dryness. Flavours of oranges and coriander, again on the light side. Gets hazier at last pour. Not a bad light Witbier, and probably the better beer in this 4-beer series with less offensive notes. - with the Pils.

165 Simple Malt Gamme TLJ - Smoothie aux Mûres Canada Berliner Weisse 2.4

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4

Lightly murky, purple-red colour with a fizzy head that disappears quickly not leaving much. Something is off with this one. Getting mint-cucumber action in the nose, and flavours. Seems like the hops used in this one do not blend as well with the blackberry juice. The sourness in the mouth seems more like old school infection that a sour wild beer base. I can see that real fruit is in here, but other things to not chill with this. Not hating the mintiness, but something off all-around, not killer unpleasant - but will stick to my more expensive Bas-Canada Smoothing Sour (even for double the price).

166 Simple Malt Gamme TLJ - Vienna Rousse Canada Vienna / Amber Lager 3.2

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

Amber colour, clean with a big frothy light-beige head, long lasting and leaving full foamy-soapy lacing. Grassy hops over the fruity malts and hints of spiciness (Pils-like). The taste shows again, grassiness upfront on the fruitiness of the malt base. It compensates for the lack of cereal grain felt in a 5% ABV version. It does get hazed at the last pour. Another light beer from this series that does the job on the budget, compensating with enough hops to make it drinkable.

167 Simple Malt Gamme TLJ - Pils Bavaroise Canada Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.3

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Clean, very light yellow colour with a big white frothy cap, good stay and loads of foamy lacing spots. Getting a diacetyl aroma after first pour, which seems to get covered by the herbal-grassy hop notes. The taste is quite hop-grassy for a light Pils with the cereal-caramel undertones. The cereal malts do come out in the nose, with time. This beer changes a lot as it breathes, but all for the best. A decent, less-expensive Pils, lighter that still packs a hoppy punch, with a drying finish.

168 Gallicus LégèrTe Canada Light / Lite Lager 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 8

Nicely hazed for a light beer, bright light-golden colour with vivid carbonation giving a big white frothy head, good retention and chunky foam lacing left. Beautiful fresh, hoppy aromas for the style, with the Hallertau hops giving a flowery nose, but also getting some nice citrus notes in here and some fresh herbs. The mouthfeel is thinner, as the style should be and the taste is milder. Still, some decent corn notes, a floral touch with some herbal hints. Definitely does not look like a light beer, and way more punch for one from a microbrewery.

169 Skeleton Park Heritage Series Single Malt Lager Canada Lager 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Clean, light golden-yellow colour with a frothy-bubbly white cap, average stay and minimal lacing. Malty aromas with some herbal-grassiness and hints of burnt wood. The taste is milder with some spicy malt that reminds me of Pils-malts, with some grassy-woody lingering and hints of citrus. This is quite a refreshing, zesty-spicy lager that goes down nicely.

170 Noctem Shaka Canada IPA 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Clean at first pour, lighter golden colour with a big frothy-foamy white head, good retention and thicker soapy lacing. Beautiful fresh herbal aromas with some citrus notes, as oppose to the West Coast smell expected - caramel and big green grassiness. Getting a little hazy as it pours more. The taste also shows some citrusy notes that are refreshing with a touch of herbs blending things. Not sure about West Coast Style IPA on this one, but a really good, fresh-citrus IPA that is just not juicy-hazy, but yet refreshing.

171 Beauregard / Mutoïde Schwarzbier Fumée Canada Schwarzbier 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Pours a fairly clean, dark brown colour with some copper-amber highlights. The head is warm light-beige, frothy, decent lasting and leaving some spots of soapy lacing. Aromas of mild smoked malts with the roasted barley light base. hints of coffee. Thinner mouthfeel with flavours of roasted malts, a tad smokiness. Some dark fruits, molasses lingers smoothly. A decent smoky, Schwarzbier that is well-brewed if you like these two styles.

172 Brasserie du Bas-Canada Bémolition Canada Imperial Stout 3.9

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Very dark brown, almost black colour with hardly any highlights. A small, fizzyish, warm-dark mocha-coloured head and just a tiny, thin cloud-island left on the brew. Bourbon aromas of booze, raisins, over the roasted malt base with some wood, molasses chocolate and hints of vanilla-maple. Silky, oily mouthfeel with a slow-building dryness, into some bitterness. A nice blended taste with nothing sticking out of the rest. Roasted barley, some mild sweetness like maple syrup mixed with bitter cacao. The vanilla is just balancing things with the oak wood and touch of Bourbon alcohol. A nice warming Imperial Stout with lots going on, but no fighting.

173 À La Dérive Tchèque Mon Lukr - Polotmavé Ležák 12° Canada Vienna / Amber Lager 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 9

Pours a clean amber colour with a light beige frothy head, average retention and some light lace. Aromas of caramel and nutty malts with some decent hops. The mouthfeel is crisp with a drying finish. Herbal flavours over the mild caramel malts. Quite a refreshing, amber lager that has nice herbal hoppiness cutting the malts that our found most in this style.

174 Brasserie du Bas-Canada Gaz-O-Boute Canada Imperial Stout 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

750ml bottle from their 6th anniversary release, pouring a real dark brown-black colour with hardly any highlights. The head is small mocha-coloured, not lasting much, but leaving some bubble-foam ring. Aromas of roasted barley base with a touch of bitter cacao, molasses, nuttiness, cherries and booze. Oily mouthfeel with a quick dryness that keeps on building. A nice warming of the alcohol. Roasted malt base flavours again, with raisins, chocolate, coffee, coconut and molasses. The Bourbon is milder in this one, compared to all of their other in this style. An easier-drinking Imperial Stout with a better blending of this America Whisky, still releasing alcoholic-bitterness.

175 La Souche Loup des Saules Canada IPA 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Cloudy-hazed golden-beige colour with many particles of hops floating around, eventually going to the bottom. Bubbly-frothy, off-white head, average stay with tiny spots of lacing. Aromas are a nice blend of lemon zest and orange juice, on the mild side. The zest-peel sharpness comes out in the taste, building slowly. Juicy, wet mouthfeel with some dryness that lingers. Some orange juice base balance things in the mouth. A nice DDH NEIPA that is juicy with some decent zestiness adding tang, with nothing sticking out too much as most of La Souche beers.
