376 Fire Island Red Wagon IPA United States IPA 3.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Carmel sweetness, a hint of malt and good citrus in the nose, also a bit of alcohol. Clear copper body is topped with medium head that is off white and lasts well enough with a touch of lacing. Medium bodied slick and slightly low carbonation on the tongue. Flavor is interesting, it seems simple but that may well be a complex objective to have achieved. A very evenly balanced brew, it seems composed of strongly toasted malts and a significant (but not hop-headed) amount of hops. Somewhat sweet for an IPA with burnt caramel and grapefruit nicely balanced, at 7% the approaches an imperial IPA and alcohol plays a nice part in the taste, especially as the beer warms. Very drinkable and approachable and packs a bit of a wallop, this is a nicely done and slightly different IPA.

377 Sierra Nevada Glissade Golden Bock United States Bock 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

[ Additional note: This beer is, IMHO, quite underrated here. Its not a "huge" beer and it is "simple" but an excellent simple beer is a thing of beauty.} By the way, let this warm significantly to really discover its depth. Smells a bit like a pasture, some grassy scents, quite floral, a touch of hop spiciness, maybe some caramel notes, and malt.... this is a very nice nose. First one poured with NO HEAD at all, read above reviews so threw it out and opened another. This one pours a frothy very white and tight head which sits above a clear, medium gold body and leaves nice lace. Yeasty pools sprout up on the skim coat that is left. Mouth on this is medium bodied and very slippery which is nice. Coats the pallet well. A lot more hops bitterness than one would expect in a bock, this is almost a hybrid style. More complex than most of SN's offerings methinks. Lots of clean light fruit, apples and grapes with significant sweetness hit the mouth and then follows some lemon and pepper, with a tart slightly bitter finish. Aftertaste is quite dry considering how sweet it started out. Alcohol is warming and also plays as part of the taste especially in the finish. This is a very well done beer!

378 Chatoe Rogue Wet Hop Ale United States IPA 2.1

Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

Another failure from Rogue (if this is what home brew tasted like I'd quit brewing) Aroma: a lot of malt, almost no hop notes, cloying caramel sweetness Looks: Medium reddish copper body toped with almost zero head and no lace. Mouth: Decent medium bodied and a bit slippery/oily. Flavor:Starts sweet, ends sweet, lots of malt, some off chemical taste, lacking in bitterness (only 65 IBU in a 'wet hop" product?), awful balance and lots of wrong flavors, dirty socks/old tennis ball mixed with brown sugar and a touch of pine Overall: there are some great fresh hopped beers out there, this isn't one of them

379 Berkshire Steel Rail Extra Pale Ale United States American Pale Ale 3.1

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Fairly standard EPA nose with a bit more biscuit and malty notes. Pale to medium gold body with a very nice head, good retention, OK lace. I loved he mouth of this, very creamy with carbonation just so. Quite full bodied for its style. I also really liked the flavor but said to myself, this is gonna get slaughtered on BP. I think the extra in "extra pale" has to do with very subtle (most will say under) hopping. Really good malt backbone is the predominant taste here but its nicely balanced, very smooth and drinkable! A really clean biscuity brew, check this one out! RERATE 6/8/13 A bit too sweet for an APA and a touch timid overall. Some grassy notes really a bit off for the style, knocking this one down a bit. RERATE 5/29/14 Just getting worse, came in a can this time (not necessarily a bad thing) , very small short lived head, nose that does not last, mouth thinner, funky buttery notes in the taste, still drinkable.

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

Sweet malt in the nose, moderate amber color, OK head, watery mouth, way too buttery, not much abv i am guessing, finish with a touch of hops bittering, completely mediocre beer.

381 Dogfish Head My Antonia United States Imperial Pilsener 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Nice pils nose of grass and herbal qualities, some hint of grapefruit and bready yeast. Slightly foggy golden body is topped with a tight white head of medium retention. Mouth is medium bodied, nice sand slick with good tingle. Flavor is better slightly warmed. Heavily hopped for a pils but a nice sweet malt body with some caramel notes followed with big grapefruit and a very dry bitter finish that ends clean. Alcohol is not masked and provides a nice flavor addition. This is an odd duck but quite tasty, DFH strikes again with another high quality brew.

382 Bells Two Hearted Ale United States IPA 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

A clear deep amber body is topped by a significant white head of tight foam that lasts and laces nicely. Nose is complex with some lavender and floral notes and a fair amount of biscuit and perhaps a bit of orange peel. Mouth is a bit watery yet also creamy. Wouldn't mind a bit more fiz. Flavor is also complex. A very solid malt backbone for the style, closer to an English Pale in that regard. Nice bready flavors a bit of grapefruit, some nuts and perhaps a hint of chocolate with a bone dry and bitter finish. This is masterfully balanced for a beer that advertises hopheadedness.

383 Moosbacher Weissbier Germany Hefeweizen 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Light nose of lemon and a hint of spice with some sour yeast. Medium amber body topped with a smallish white head that doesn't last and has minimal lace. Mouth is a bit watery, not slippery as I would have expected. Flavor is lemon, hints of cardamom, touch of pepper, finish is sour. Not as spiced as most heffes and a bit of a let down but drinkable.

384 Samuel Adams Latitude 48 IPA United States IPA 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

nice nose, lots of citrus and hops with good malt presence, and some yeasty scents, and some citrus. Deep amber body topped by an off white large and long-;lasting head with fantastic lace, this is a fine looking brew. Mouth is medium bodied and silky, nice moderate carbonation level. Taste if rich for an IPA, especially after it warms a bit, quite a mouthful. The mix of hops is quite nice, very bitter but balanced with a very solid malt for an IPA (suspect this will cost it some scores here) there is a bit of walnut in the flavor with hints of ripe fruit and a touch of citrus, flavor is very subtle but really quite excellent. Finish is clean and dry. This might actually be closer to a pale ale profile than an IPA but the bitterness is there, just well balanced. For a brewer that is approaching Macro status this is a very impressive offering1

385 Ayinger Celebrator Dopplebock Germany Doppelbock 4.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Sweet nose of raisins and figs and molasses with a good bit of anise as it warms. As it warms there is some chocolate/coffee tones. Small dirty brown head that subsides leaving a skim coat sits atop a very dark brown body with a hint of ruby. Mouth is full and a bit chewy with a very nice fizz. The flavor is complex with malt and hops masterfully balanced. Taste starts dry goes a bit sweet and bitter at the same time in mid taste, finishes tart/sour and aftertaste is very dry. There are tastes of raisin, chocolate, coffee ... lots of toasty malt notes with a perfectly balanced hop bitterness. The alcohol is a bit present at the end with a nice warming. This is very similar to Aventinus and its hard to say which I prefer, will have to do a side by side tasting! Wonderful Brew, absolutely World Class!

386 Marston's Pedigree United Kingdom Extra Special Bitter 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7

Reviewing from 2 day old memory and no adequate glass. Nice malty nose with a touch of pine and some sweet non-toasted malty notes. Bad glass (plastic cup, don't ask) so no appearance review. Medium to light mouth with good carbonation. Lots of good malt flavor something a bit odd in the hopping. Tastes a bit too much like a brown ale.

387 Santa Barbara Oktoberfest United States Marzen / Oktoberfest 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Review from 3 day old memory, Had at the SB Brewing Company in SB after a very long day of work. Didn't pay a lot of attention to it as was hanging with a friend I hadn't seen in 35 years. Do remember it was spot on for a marzen style Oktoberfest (may actually have been spelled Octoberfest, really don't remember.) I was very impressed that a West Coast local brewery didn't overhop this beer, very tasty very drinkable, medium amber body, nice head, smooth and soft mouth, tasted spot on, good session, well done SBBC.

388 Mission Street Pale Ale United States American Pale Ale 2.5

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

All lemon pledge in the nose, pine and lemon. Very pale yellow body, too pale for style, with very frothy had with good lace. Mouth is very thin, almost watery, Flavor not well rounded lemon and pine with really no malt present, a touch of awkward bitterness at the finish, goes a bit sour. Lack of malt is bad for the style.

389 Firestone Walker DBA / Firestone Walker Double Barrel Ale United States English Pale Ale 3.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

More like a brown ale than an IPA, nice coper color body with a carmel colored head with good retentin and good lace.. Malty in the nose with toasted grain and caramel notes. Medium body with carbonation very well done. Taste is sweet for a pale ale again tastes like a brown ale. Lots of malt and hops just present mostly bittering not a lot of hop flavor. A good beer very drinkable but not really right for style.

Drank this for the first time last night followed by several other brews at an Oktoberfest dinner I threw, (yes this is not an Oktoberfest brew) so didn't have the chance to really study and rate it. However I can say it is under rated here IMHO. Will not some impressions here and come back for re-rate in the future when I can spend some serious time with this wonderful lager. Mostly malt in the nose with a hint of hops, beautiful pale golden body with tight white head. Soft medium mouth with perfect carbonation. I love the taste of this one, lost of malt; bread and biscuit with a fair amount of grass and hints of lemon, very nice balanced with he hops, dry finish, extremely drinkable!

391 Stone Ruination IPA United States Imperial IPA 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Not a big nose, alcohol, grapefruit, not much spice or malt, and some overripe fruit I assume from the yeast. Pretty beer, light amber body (a bit too pale?) that is a bit cloudy (chill haze?), good white head with nice lace. Mouth is a bit slippery unusual in an IPA but nice, medium, and a bit chewy. Flavor is strong. I think the alcohol should be better masked, its very prominent throughout the taste. A slight sweetness of honey on the front of the mouth lasts for only an instant before bitter on the rear of the tongue takes over. There are pine notes and some hints of sour over-ripe fruit (a belgium taste) but it is predominately grapefruit and raw alcohol. Ending is STRONGLY sour and bitter and leaves a film on the palate. I guess I find this beer quite nice but slightly over-rated. Its really not all that hard to put a ton of bittering hops into a high alcohol beer, this could use some more malt backbone.

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4

Standard pilsner, not bad not good. Was fun at the local Lebanese festival. Medium gold, not much nose, grass and a bit of malt. Not a lot of taste, clean though and no awful aftertaste, not much skunk.

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

Decent Asian macro, not a lot of flavor or nose, looks OK, washes down a nice Thai meal better than water does. AT 6 ABV with alcohol fairly well masked this was a lot of fun in Singapore at the outdoor food stands and it brings back fond memories when I have it in the states.

394 Long Trail Brewing Brewmaster Series: Double IPA United States Imperial IPA 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Really nice Double! Nose full of citrus, pine, and honey. Nice deep amber body with a big head that lingers. Medium bodied mouth with very nice carbonation. Flavor is big hops, pine and citrus following with quite sweet malt backbone, honey and clover, nice bitter ending bite. Some warming from the alcohol. Very tasty though perhaps a bit sweet, a winner!

395 Hitachino Nest White Ale Japan Witbier 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Lots of clean earth and grass in the nose along with lemon peel. Pours a gorgeous cloudy lemon-colored body with a moderate egg white tightly bubbled head. A very pretty beer. Mouth is very slippery with moderate tingle from well done carbonation. Flavor is a bit complex for a witbier, starts with a nice bitter hops, turns a bit sweet and tart with a big burst of lemon peel flavor, then goes a bit bitter again with some coriander coming through, and finishes nicely quite dry. This is really a pretty spectacular wit! Incredible balance and finesse, flavors playing off one another throughout.

396 Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA United States Imperial IPA 3.7

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

A very mild nose, actually lacking in the aroma department which is too bad because what there is is nice; pine, ripe fruit, good solid malt, some citrus.... I would just like it to have more presence. Minimal off-white head, poor retention, slight lace sits atop a reddish copper body that is clear. Mouth is full, a bit creamy which is a surprise, but lacking in carbonation. Flavor is complex. Quite malty at first blush, then major hops kick in, finish is clean, aftertaste is bitter with major warming effect for alcohol that is not masked. The blend of malt and hops seems unique, its almost sweet in mid-taste with a sense of overripe fruit, raisin, plum, etc. Hops are more bitter then flavorful but they attenuate the malt to produce an unusual flavor profile, it almost seems as if they kick in a bit too soon... its like a I am about to get really interesting fruit flavors when the hops kick there way in and extinguish them just a bit too soon. This actually makes the tasting interesting. I also get some vanilla/maple syrup flavor. Its a bit buttery which, I suppose, it really shouldn't be. I am really just surprised that the hops are not more predominant; relatively little pine and citrus in the taste. Its like a noble pils got pumped with biscuit and alcohol. I really like it a lot but I think its way off base for the style (although my experience with Imperial IPA's is minimal) so I guess I will score flavor high. Give me better carbonation and pump up the hops citrus a bit more and I would love this beer. As is this brew seems more Belgium then IPA, find an new name and the rating would go up, what an odd predicament!

397 Lagunitas Little Sumpin Extra Ale United States Imperial IPA 3.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

Lots of lemony hops in the nose with some pepper and a sweetish malt smell. Pours a not quite clear deep gold body with a frothy white head that has good retention and very nice lace. Mouth is medium bodied slippery and perhaps a touch under-carbonated. This beer has an unusual flavor profile! Sour grapefruit rind and bitter but with a sweet toffee malt presence. Alcohol is NOT masked. There are some pepper notes and, oddly, some grassy notes too. This will not go down as my favorite taste profile. The bitterness is a bit over the top and is slightly chemical tasting. Aftertaste is very chemical. A bit disappointing from a brewery that I am fond of. There is a bit of soapyness to the end taste as well.

398 Long Trail Brewing Belgian White Ale United States Witbier 2.9

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Nose of citrus, predominately orange, and honey, cloudy (but could be more cloudy) body of pale gold is topped by a disappointingly smallish white head that leaves no lace. Mouth is not as slick and not as tingly as it should be for this style and is a touch too thin. Flavor is mostly citrus with some nice wheat, some nice sourness in mid taste, generally a sweet overall taste that finishes clean and fairly dry. Its missing some coriander and mostly it is missing yeast, yeast that is not prevalent in the appearance or the flavor and is missing some sourness. Not a bad effort but not outstanding in any way (and I also think it wouldn't hurt to kick the abv up a bit)

399 Southampton IPA United States IPA 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Big hop nose, lots of pine and citrus some fig and vanilla an a bit of biscuit. Light copper body pours a good head with very nice lace. Medium bodied mouth feel with slightly less tingle then I would prefer. HIts with a very balanced flavor profile (putting it in the English IPA range that the brewer is aiming for) plenty of grapefruit and pine with a solid malt backbone that is slightly sweet. Finish is strongly bitter aftertaste quite clean but slightly sweet. Another well made brew from Southampton.

400 Kona Longboard Lager United States Lager 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7

You know I figured this would be low rated, just from looking at the label and also that its an american lager. I have only smelled it so far and was hoping it might be better rated, the nose is really pretty good (even though it reminds me of what I smelled as a kid when my dad was done mowing he lawn, which was Hamms, i do Like that smell. I guess I get grass and some lavender notes, and a hint of peppery hops. Looks so-so, medium light golden body with smallish short-lived head that is white and OK lace. OK time to take a dreaded taste....... Hey, not so bad really! Not a lot of flavor there, to put it kindly, but I am not detecting any bad flavor. Mouth is OK, light side of medium body and I would like a bit more carbonation. Back to flavor. Hello, flavor, where are you? Very neutral, no complexity, just a slight bitterness at the end, with no after taste to speak of, but no skunk either. Just slightly sweet, malt not identifiable, but doesn't taste too much like adjuncts either. On a hot day, in the sun, icy cold, this would be poundable. its significantly less bad then macro swill, alcohol pretty well masked too so that could lead to a bit of trouble, 5.5 ABV is respectable compared to most swill. HEY BREWERS WEBSITES LISTS ABV AS 4.6, that seems more like it tastes, think BP has got it wrong.
