A nice, zingy winter beer. The serving I got did not have much of an odor - but I have never had an exceptional sense of smell. The taste, however, is fairly good. The flavor is not overwhelming or remarkable, but this is definitely a drinkable beer and a good companion to a hearty lunch or dinner. It goes down smoothly without a bad aftertaste.

This is the best oatmeal stout I have ever had! It sits nicely in the mouth, and goes down as smoothly as cold milk. The smell is better than that of most beers, and the taste is rich but not overwhelming. Also, it doesn't have as much of a thick or "heavy" feel as most stouts. This is a beer worth saving for special occasions because it has such a splendid flavor. I recommend this oatmeal stout to all connoisseurs of stouts and porters.

  • Tuppers Hop Pocket Ale

Pours an orangy amber with a fairly thick head. Aroma is strong and malty with a hint of saltiness. Flavor is malty, with strong hop bitterness that is unpleasant and biting rather than stimulating. It has a rather strong alcohol edge even though it is only 12 proof. Maybe I got a bottle from a bum batch; I will have to try this again.

  • Brooklyn Brown Ale

    Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Aroma is malty with a strong molasses component and spicy and hoppy hints. Flavor is malty with some hop undertone, a whisper of sweetness, and just a touch of bitterness. It pours a rich, transparent mahogany brown with a fairly thick off-white head. It feels just a shade thin, but otherwise is very tasty. This ale is very smooth and leaves a surprisingly hoppy but not bitter or nasty aftertaste.

Aroma is simply heavenly - rich and "stouty" with strong smoky and coffee undertones, as well as a sharp alcohol nip. It pours a deep, opaque sable with a thick tan head. Flavor is strong and smoky, with some bitterness but not too much. It is very smooth, yet goes down somewhat like strong liquor - you know exactly where it is in your esophagus. Perhaps this comes from being aged in single-malt whisky barrels.

  • Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter

Flying Dog Brewery's homage to the late Hunter S. Thompson is a winner. This imperial porter has an inviting taste, and goes down smoothly with just a whisper of bitterness. I like porters and stouts, and this is definitely one of the better ones I have ever consumed. As Thompson said, "Good people drink good beer." Gonzo Imperial Porter is good beer.

  • Terrapin Rye2 (Rye Squared)

Excellent! I had this "over" Crystal hops, so that affected the taste, but I feel that I can give a fair judgment to this beer. Its beautiful dark amber-brown is very tempting, and the aroma is hoppy but not "piney." Taste is delightfully hoppy with minimal bitterness. Very pleasant to drink, this is a beer one should sip and savor.

  • Terrapin India Brown Ale
    rated 4.4 16 years ago

    Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

Out of the tap it is a rich opaque brown with a thin but persistent head, very attractive. Aroma is very hoppy, smelling a lot like a pine tree, which means extreme hoppiness. Flavor is, as the aroma promises, extremely hoppy and pleasantly bitter, with a smoky overtone and hints of chocolate. Finish is pleasing and hoppy, with a touch of sweetness to offset the bitterness. Excellent!

  • Terrapin Golden Ale (Cream Ale)
    rated 3.5 16 years ago

    Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

The color is golden and clear. Taste is nice, with fruity undertones and hardly any bitterness. Texture is smooth and simple. This is a beer more for drinking with lunch or dinner, or while watching a sporting event or yapping at a party, than for serious enjoyment; still it is a decent brew. Terrapin has yet to disappoint me.

This beer is a transparent dark golden amber. The strong aroma has a heavy fruity overtone, making it smell more like a cider than a beer. Flavor is more fruity than malty, rather like apple juice with a nice alcohol bite, rather like a good hard cider. Smooth and a little bitter, not outstanding but refreshing.
