This beer is very pleasant in taste and a wonderful color that reminded me of a Bock. A tad bit hoppy for my taste though, but overall it was a good beer. I would drink this beer again.

a pleasant enough brew, but IMHO not strong enough to be classed as a strong ale or winter warmer. complex nose and flavor, leaning more towards roasted malt. quite enjoyable.

this brew poured a transparent brown with a thin head the diminished quickly. The aroma was of ripe figs, very sweet smelling. The mouthfeel was average, medium to thin bodied. The flavor was realatively bland with some roasted malts. overall this beer is good and would drink it again.

Cask handpump at The Lamb, Bloomsbury, on 2/1/08. Color is a deep copper, with a thin tan head that produces good lacing. The nose is light and unassuming, and the flavor as well, considering deep color of the body and the adverts "Warming Ale" description. Light roasted malt with slight butterscotch notes yielding to a mildly bitter finish.

A very dark amber beer with a very fine head. It has a light fruity aroma. The flavor is smooth powerful and very nice, it contains fruit, wood and roast notes - and ends on a powerful bitterness.

Aroma is of spice and malty sweetness with some caramel. Appearance is a mahogany to brown in color with some haze with a medium-sized head that is light-tan in color. Mouthfeel is full-bodied and robust with a palate that is creamy and good. Flavor is malty sweet with some spice and maybe gingerbread as well as some nuttiness and is rather smooth and tasty. Overall, solid ale here but nothing special but would be a great winter seasonal for high consumption in one sitting.

Beers like this put me to sleep. Poured an orange color, dull head, but good retention of that thin little thing. Lacing was spotty and weak at best. Aroma was caramel and toffee, some fruity esters. The flavor followed the aroma, but had a hop presence, almost a nutty herbal hoppiness. Winter warmer? I'd hate to drink their regular version, cuz the spice and alcohol were very uninspiring.

Dark brown pour with nice head and lacing. Weak aroma of nuts and metal. The flavor in this one had some caramel malts and significant nuttiness, some dark fruits and earth and a faint sweetness and an herbal hop twang. Not overly flavorful and maybe a little thin. Creamy feel on the tongue and just a slight warming burn made this an enjoyable, if unspectacular brew. I'd drink it again if offered to me, but probably wouldn't seek it out.

This was my first storebought strong ale. I thought it was ok, reminded me of a beer and a shot. I managed to drink it all . I just was not that impressed with it. And as far as warming anything i dont think so.

Probably my favorite Youngs outside of the Double Chocolate Stout. Very hearty aroma and a cloudy dark brown appearance thats spectacular. Mouthfeel is nice and smooth. Flavor is packed full of a mix of malts and hops. A very nice winter brew.

Attractive clear brown ale, with a large thick and creamy tan head. Slight aroma of nuttiness and soft warm malts. In taste this is a typical English "strong" ale, dark and malty..that typical English malt, slight hints of spiciness and a semi-sweet cane sugar taste. Pretty nice mouthfeel, maybe a wee bit thin but enjoyable none-the-less. Like most good English ales..drinkability is its strongest point..quite enjoyable.
