Clear dark copper with lacing light brown foam head. Aroma is barley, alcohol clearly present. Taste is caramel, alcohol dominated. Aftertaste is staying, some spice. (Velp 201402)

330 ml bottle, from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. ABV is 8.8%. Mahogany coloured beer, large off-white head. Malty aroma, notes of caramel, but also some fruity and spicy notes. Gordon / John Martin are known for some pretty sweet beers, so I braced myself to tolerate an enormous sweetness. Well, their Xmas is sweet, but not more than I’m able to handle. Very rich and malty flavour, notes of caramel, dark dried fruits and mild spices. The sweetness is to some degree balanced by moderate hops in the finish. Not a beer to go with Christmas dinner, but excellent to savour on its own, or with Christmas cookies, chocolate and fruit. Will buy again, if I can find it for Christmas.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear brown color ale with a huge foamy head with a light brown head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some dry fruits notes. Taste is also dominated by some sweet malt with noticeable trace of candi sugar and some dry fruits notes such as figs and plums. Body is slightly thin for the style with great carbonation and some light alcoholic phenols. Not the best Christmas Belgian style ale I have tasted but pretty good nonetheless.

Beer in the same style as Gordon Scotch. Spicy flavor. Small layer of fine foam, when poured in the Gordon glass. Very dark red color. Taste is a bit sweeter then the Scotch, velvety, with hints of dark fruit. Good beer to sip when you have dropped of your wife for Xmas shopping.

Dark amber colour with small beigeish head. Aroma of alcohol caramel and some malts. Also some plummy hints. Flavour is plummy sweet with some sour hints. Plummy aftertaste. Hides alcohol well, palate is a bit sticky, but still pleasant.

Dark brown, slim head. Malty aroma with dark fruit, chocolate and spices. Taste is very nice; malty, dark fruit, raisins, chocolate. Full bodied and warming. Great Xmas Ale, no matter I’m drinking it in June.
