It pours a dark copper with a thin light-tan head and copious lacing. An aroma of caramel malts, hops, oranges, raisin, bread and yeast, and mild spices. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, orange and citrus, bread and yeast, some tart, and spices. Very good!

Sampled on draft at Wynkoop, 08/07. Overall, a bland and watery beer. A decent aroma due to a hint of hops. Quite pedestrian especially in light of the fact Wynkoop is in the heart of one of the USA's beer Meccas.

Sampler. Pours a clear brown. Aroma is malty but not very strong. Flavor is pretty standard caramel and malt. Not a fantastic beer, but definitely worth trying out.

Sampled at the brewpub. Poured a clear brown color with an off-white head. Good lacing. Caramel and malty aroma. Flavor had a lot of caramel and a little bit of malt to it. I thought this was okay, if not good.

Bottled version tasted. What was I drinking? Is it the same beer as the other raters tasted? Light brown color, lightly hopped. Not much taste, little hop or malts. Slightly hoppy in aftertaste. Not very impressive. "BTB"- Better than Bud.

A Maerzen ale, this is the brewpub’s so-called flagship. Despite that billing, I did not think mine was a particularly fresh-tasting sample. It’s amber-brown, thin-bodied, and spicy or zesty tasting. The detractors are that the finish was a bit harsh, and the aroma was stale. Disappointing, yes--but I would be willing to try it again.
