a very good alt, but barely average as far as what's offered as winter seasonals...but i don't even know if they make it anymore. Brrr and snow plow are both better options anyway. nice malty, nuttiness, but not too exciting.

Big full white fluffy head sitting on a copper/red brew. Nice malty nose with a little hop back.First sip reveals that this is a little too sweet for me. Good malty flavor with excellent hop balance. Creamy mouthfeel makes this an easy drinker just as I said a tad too sweet.

"Rich Roasted Ale", indeed. In fact, if I didn't know better, I'd swear this tasted just like an extract homebrew, that somebody let burn/scorch on the bottom of the kettle. Not entirely unpleasant, but the lack of any other flavor besides "burned" doesn't win me over.

I have a six-pack of this beer, and gave it another honest try. I bumped up the Taste score a little, only because the burnt/scortched extract affect was not nearly as prevalent as the first time I tried this. While normally considered to be an unrecoverable flavor fault in the homebrewing field, perhaps a bit of aging mellows this out when the pros get a little carried away with boil kettle? Regardless, this is still a rather insipid Winter Beer, and really do not enjoy drinking it.

Well, a full year of laying this down seemed to help this beer quite a bit. The "chewing on charcoal" mouthfeel that was prevalent in the fresher samples has finally calmed down, improving both the flavor and the overall drinkability. Still a bit flawed to begin with, but this last bottle was a vast improvement. Scores adjusted accordingly.

Medium brown color, small head, Malty aroma. Medium bodied alt. Slightly sweet malty flavor. Nice hop bite. Well balanced. Very tasty. A great winter beer. 7% alcohol not noticeable in the taste, but it warms you up quick. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Try this one, not only is it an excellent beer, but it’s an excellent example of style.

Winternacht: an unusual winter beer seeing that is an Alt..a favourite style of mine ( well Ive liked every one I have tasted). Mahogany brown beer with an excellent off white creamy/foamy head..nice carbonation. Aroma is spicy and malty but not excellent. Yes typical Altbier taste bit above average..starts strong and fades towards the end..small hop bite. Nice and creamy smooth..never tasted the alcohol..but felt it afterwards. Nice drinkable Alt

Good flavor, but it did not blow me away.
