This Porter is made with 25% specialty malt for a deep and robust roasty malt character balanced by an assertive American hop profile to give a suprisingly refreshing dimension. This beer was a bit of an accident, but we don't want it to think we love it any less because of that. Normally you design a beer so that the malt balances the harshness of the hops or that the hops balance the sweetness of the malt, but this recipe turns conventional wisdom on its side. In this beer we use a heavy handed late addition of power-house hops to rounds-out the harsher notes of the dark roasted malts the hops really complete the beer in a way you wouldn`t really expect. 2015 Description: This Porter has an assertive American hop profile to round-out the roasted flavors of the chocolate malt. This is not quite a stout, or a Black IPA, so we call it an American Porter. Brewer’s Notes This beer was a bit of an accident, but we don’t want it to think we love it any less because of that. On tap at Lunenberg Pub. Pours a huge frothy creamy looking brownish head and has an almost pitch black appearance. Thick dirty lacing. Aromas of light coffee and roasted malts. Flavours are quite malty, mainly toasty and coffee notes. Some subtle hints of chocolate and vanilla. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Pretty good overall.

Pours a very dark brown colour with a beautiful creamy-foamy head, great retention and lacing. Nice soft roasted malts and hints of apples after breathing a while. The taste is porter-like with some good dark fruits over the roasted malts with some light grass in the finish. A little oily in the mouthfeel with a small dry finish. A nice, not too thick porter that goes down beautifully with decent hops and fruits.
