Victory Brewing Company is known for melding traditional styles and unique concepts to produce the highest quality, full flavored beers. Red Thunder does just that. By aging their popular Baltic Thunder in once-used red wine barrels from Wente Vineyards, Victory Brewing Company created Red Thunder. The burnished cocoa creaminess of the Baltic-style porter is accented by the tannic dryness of the wood to produce a rich, fruity final product. “While enjoying our first batch of Baltic Thunder in 2007, Ron and I immediately sensed that the deep complexities of this nuanced brew left almost no room for improvement,” said Victory Brewing Company President and Co-Brewmaster Bill Covaleski. “But as our experience with Baltic Thunder grew, we became intrigued with barrel-aging it, and red wine barrels proved to deliver the perfect level of flavor enhancement.” Packaged in 750 mL corked bottles, Red Thunder will be available at Victory Brewing Company’s Downingtown retail store beginning on Wednesday, 11/21 and in additional markets shortly after. Red Thunder will be distributed throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts and Ohio.

First thing I noticed is the taste of fruit then it turned into a glass of wine. Pours very dark red without a foam head.even though it's a bit watery it's balanced by the rich malt taste.

A dark brown-to-black coloring, with a thin, filmy, light brown colored ring on the surface. Aromas of bittersweet chocolate and bitter coffee in the backbone, with heavy merlot and cab wine characteristics all over the place. Very rich and layered, with a decent balance. Flavors are wine-like as well, with a dry, red wine forward flavor on a bitter, roasted coffee backbone. Subtle bittersweet baker's chocolate character builds towards the end of the palate. The body is light, but robust and slick. Chocolate and wine blend in the aftertaste once again, with a dry, red wine linger into a slick, dry, lingering finish. Tasty beer, with robust flavors and a slightly increased ABV that make it a sipper.

Gifted bottle from FoamDome. Thanksgiving beer no. 3. Deep brown, near black pour, tight tan head, plenty of drapes of lacing. Deep roasted malts, oak woodsiness, cherries and grapes all in the nose and palate, very rich and complex, light earthy funk and more oakiness as it warms. Nice earthy hops presence, some molasses in the background. Exquisite Baltic Porter - we all absolutely loved this beer. Huge thank you to Dave.

A dark brownish black in color with a big frothy textured, brown head rising above. The hang time id not impressive and once settled there's no laving. The nose is roasty malt and chocolate. The tasting more of the same with a dominance of dark fruitiness. Thick, syrupy.

Comes out of the growler an opaque dark chocolate brown with a decent tan head. Rich aroma has notes of roast malt, coffee, caramel, licorice, and semi-sweet chocolate. Lip-smacking flavor delivers all that the aroma promises - plus an undertone of wine-soaked wood that gives the flavor a delightful but not overpowering kick. Texture is firm and smooth, though a bit lacking in the tingle department. Who needs Blue Thunder when you have Red Thunder?

A wonderful blend of rich chocolate and red wine hit me right away. The barrell influence is wrapped around the clean roasted malt profile that I remember so well from the original Baltic Thunder. Mild funk and fruity berries add another level of enjoyment. Amber brown body with a lasting frothy head and ample lacing. Very good all around.

Red tinged brown pour with a slightly sticky white head. Chocolate dominates the aroma with faint earthy and funky undertones. Acidic and thin mouthfeel hurts the drinkability. This tastes like a chocolate covered cherry. Notes of chocolate, burnt malt, oak/wood, and slight funkiness. It's well executed and unique.
