Burnished, deep bronze in color with ruby highlights, this looks like a different kind of porter because it is. Smokey nuances emerge from under lean, roasted malt and give the earthy impression of smoked, oily almonds. Hops hold through to balance this off as a surprisingly nuanced and refreshing porter.

On tap at brewpub. Chestnut brown pour, not overly dark, clear. The aroma was smokey and nutty. The flavor was nearly as smokey as other smoked beers I’ve had. Very smooth, but subdued flavor with smoke, chocolate and nuts. Also present were those milky lactic notes that I just personally don’t like. Otherwise, this would have scored much higher.
