Cerezo means cherry tree in Spanish. It is a new type of beer made with cherries and inspired by the lambic style (spontaneous fermentation fruit beer). It is brewed with the highest quality cherries macerated in oak barrels in Belgium for months. Its dark red color, cherry nose and lively effervescence precede a soft and fruity taste. Perfect as an aperitif.

12.27.05 12oz bottle. Deep ruby brown with fizzy tan head. Looks like a soda. Aroma is spicy and pleasant with prominant cherry, savory winter spiciness of allspice, cinnamon, and sugary sweet maltiness. Sparkling eff reminds further of a soda. The drinking experience is sweet, a bit woody, and quite fruity (cherry juice) with more allspice and a tingly feel across the palate. Eventually the fizz wanes and the sweetness becomes a bit too much. I didn’t realize this was supposed to be the replacement for Quelque Chose...I hope that’s not true.

Bottle: Poured a bright pink/red color ale with a nice bubbly light pinkish head with average retention. Aroma of sweet cherries is totally dominating. Taste is extremely sweet with subtle background hints of tart. I just can’t believe of the amount of bad cherry syrup there is in here and even worse it just taste like cough syrup. By far, the worst beer from Unibroue.

Just after trying Unibroue's Quelque Chose, I decided to try this new one. Another Unibroue fruit beer with cherries. This one pours a clear deep raspberry red colour with a medium head. Retention and lacing is minimal. At first, this one smells like the other brother. Then, more cherries comes out of there with hints of licorice. No tart here as well, mildly sticky. The taste starts off with a mix of sweetness and sourness on the cherry part. It then goes through a medicinal middle to finish with notes of licorice. In the aftertaste, grain like corn comes out to stay a while. Not as complex as the Quelque Chose, but still very pleasing. Interesting as an aperitif.
