This classic dry stout is crafted with pale ale and carastan malts, roasted barley, and steel-cut, organic oatmeal. Trafalgar’s brewers lovingly smoked their grain over a cold-burning cherry wood fire, and the result is a mellow oatmeal flavour with subtle smokiness. Try Smoked Oatmeal Stout with grilled steak or smoked oysters.

The beers a solid brown colour with a thin light brown head. The aroma is a little smoke, a little chocolate, and a little coffee. The mouthfeel is very weak for a stout, almost watery with mild carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt, smoke, and chicoree.

Smoked Oatmeal Stout sounds good but this beer does not hold up to it's name. Very little smoke and no oatmeal body. Sweet to start, some chocolate and a slightly bitter aftertaste. Watery mouthfeel. Drinkable but expected way more.

OK. So I forgot I had this one in my cellar, and had never reviewed it. Sometimes though, Trafalgar brews are better to be left alone in the dark and with time might get better (if not infected from the get-go). Anyways, this one says best before Jan. 08... so, I am two years late (and I have one more bottle in my cellar.. ha, ha). Gives me a full English pint of mocha-coloured head that is creamy and stays quite a while. Had to lick some coming out of the bottle, and got that outdated sourness that beers have. I will let that alone for now. The brew is a dark brown colour with red highlights and hardly any carbonation. Roasted malt nose, with some coffee and notes of smoke. Kind of the same for the taste and with a thin mouthfeel. Hope to try some fresh one, one day and to be a little more bodied... and smoky.

This was not a very good beer. This is the thinnest stout I can recall. It's black, with chocolate and coffee dominating the aroma, and very little smoke. The flavour was weak and watered down.

Bottle: Poured a clear black color stout with a big foamy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma is somewhat sour with some light subtle smoke. Taste is dominated by some disgusting sweetness with some light smoke and a sour aftertaste which leads me to believe we have another infected bottle from this atrocious brewer.

Bottle: has best before date of Jan 08, I assume this is a fresh sample less than 2 weeks in the bottle. Pours a dark black-brown with ruby highlights....not the opaque black indicative of the style. Cap is fair but did not last that long. Aroma was pleasant: malty, cooked cereals, some faint nut and smoke undertones some "charred" husks and molasses notes. Decent nose to it. Up front you get the malts and nutty cereal tones right off, then a demerara sweetness floods in but is surprisingly kept at bay by some decent hop bittering, smoke and char astringency....this bittering and smoky black malt astringency carry the finish. This is a thin and sweetish example of the oatmeal stout and kind of shy on the "smoke" but a decent enough effort to be clean and drinkable. Probably the best and cleanest beer I have sampled from this brewer.
