2 Turtle Doves is the second in the 12 Days/Years of Christmas Series. We decided to take our inspiration from the name and base the beer on the "turtle" candy, brewing it with cocoa nibs, toasted pecans, caramelized sugar and a lot of caramel malts. Somewhere between a Belgian-style Dark Strong Ale and an Imperial Porter, this beer is designed to take the journey through time until 12 Drummers Drumming. ABV: 12%, IBU: 25, SRM: 30, Release: Winter 2009/2010

Taps opaque coffee with a fair tan head. Aroma features roast malt, candi, molasses tones. Flavor yields roast malt, horehound, molasses and candi. Texture presents decent body and peppy fizz. Coo coo.

Had this for over a year and been wanting to try. Aged about 2 years total. Maybe shoulda opened closer to one year and not 2, as was a little sourish at first. 2nd and 3rd glasses seemed better once it got to breathe, and was able to taste the flavors more. This is one intense beer, comparable to DFH Santo Maron. Chocolate malt, suagar/pecans, a little fruit. Possibly a tad too sweet for my preference, but one I can appreciate no doubt.

Sampled on 12/6/2009 at the Brewery. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a dark brown color from the cask. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, nutty and sweet. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are chocolate and nutty. The hops are earthy. Nice balance. Good balance. I like the interplay between the chocolate, dark fruit and the nuts. Hides the alcohol well. Nice carbonation. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Second in the series, but bummed that it contained no squab .. . Flavours of mostly caramelized sugar and belgian spice .. . abv is well masked, and finishes smooth .. . a whole bottle could be a bit much .. . i do not have a speech impediment!

This poured a dark black color with a beige head. The aroma contains some dark fruit, pecans, chocolate, and coffee. The flavor is rather nutty with some chocolate, coffee, and caramel showing through. The mouthfeel is carbonated. Overall a nice one!

Dec. 2009 - A nice offering, brownish red with nice looking head. Lots of dry cocoa powder and pecan nuttiness with some other dark fruits. Nice beer...thanks to eaglefan538 for sharing.

ours out in a a cloudy dark brown colour with a small pale brown lasting head. Sweet and dense aroma of dark chocolate, brown sugar, caramelized sugar, cocoa, raisins and yeast. Full-bodied with thick, syrupy and really sweet notes of raisins, chocolate-sauce, cocoa, Turkish coffee and brown sugar. Mild carbonation. Long, almost sticky-sweet finish of cocoa, milky chocolate, raisins and sugar. Definitely needs some age and is way to sweet for my taste-buds at the moment.

i wasn't incredibly inpressed by the aroma, although it was nice, but hot damn...the flavor is faaaaantastic. Holy cocoa nibs batman! This made for a very nice full bodied and luscious treat. the body and flavor were great, though the pecans take a backseat to the cocoa. warming, but not hot. well done.

Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy brown color ale with a medium foamy head with average retention and not much lacing. Aroma of dry fruits and sweet malt base is fortunately not overly sweet. Taste is just enough balance between some dry fruits such as figs and plums with a rich sweet malt backbone. Body si quite full with average carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad overall though some of the upfront sweetness could be more balance with some additional complexity from missing ester.
