One time release! Grab it while you can! To our brewers "Side Project" signifies an opportunity to experiment with new ingredients and unique styles while utilizing their creativity. To our fans it represents a chance to sample a unique beer crafted just for them. Each "Side Project" volume is a limited edition, one-time batch featuring a new... BREWING IMPROVISATION. 2008 will forever we known in professional brewing circles as the year of the Hop Shortage. Brewers everywhere are scrambling to find hops just to produce their standard line of beers. Some are so nervous they are even cutting back on brewing hoppy beers. NOT US! In typical Terrapin fashion we are going against the grain (or against the hop, so to speak). If there is going to be a shortage of hops, why not put them all into one huge hop bomb of a beer? We hope you enjoy our HOP SHORTAGE ALE.

This IPA pours a deep orange color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel malt, citrus and orange hops. A medium bodied IPA. The malts are caramel and fruity. The hops are grapefruit and citrus. Lively carbonation. Lots of hops that’s for sure, but balanced by some pretty big malts. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

I wouldn't call this a huge hop bomb of a beer but it is still very good. Orange colored with a relatively small head but still some lacing. Citrus grapefruit and hoppy with bready malts. Slightly dry with a nice amount of hop bitterness. At first I thought the hops were strong upfront with the malts finishing off but as I worked through the bottle it seemed well balanced with the malts providing a nice backbone. Very nice.

First off, I really like this beer. I wish they’d make this a regular offering, but I don’t buy it as a super hoppy beer. It’s a great malty amber with a nice pleasant hoppiness, lemon and bay leaves, but those aren’t the dominant aromas and flavors. Great beer, but misleading.

A dark orange appearance with some pine, grapefruit, and lemons in the nose. The flavor is rather bitter like an IPA should be by god. Some pine, oranges, lemons show up for this one. It wasnt a hop bomb, it had a nice malty backbone to it. Overall yet another gem from Terrapin!

Never seen this brew until yesterday when I hit Green's up off Ponce in the ATL. Aroma is citrus malt as well as some pine and some dried-floral overtones with nuiances of bitterness and grapefruit. Appearance is a rustic-orange in color when held to the light and very crisp with a medium-sized head on top that is bleach-white in color and adheres to the glass leaving lacing. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with complex hoppy bitter as well as malty balance with a palate that is crisp and dry-like and refreshing. Flavor is citrus and bitter hops as well as some pine with an aftertaste that is malty sweet and a finish that is clean, crisp, and sharp with some dryness with emphasis on the hop character for sure. Overall, a very nice and easy-drinking IPA we have here and warrants an ale with high sessionability to enjoy with friends; this is very limited but worth seeking out and sampling for sure...Recommended!!
