This beer was better on draft, but it was the bottled version after, that I really noticed the roasty malt, burnt carmel, prunes, and coffee tasting notes. A dense mouth feel but smooth with a hoppy bite. I rather liked it, and am not normally an IPA drinker.

Comes out of the tap a rich, warm sable with a very thick tan head. Roast malt aroma has notes of coffee and charred hops. Charred malt flavor has hoppy, coffee, licorice, and unsweet chocolate notes - this goes all the way to 11! Firm, lively mouthfeel deposits very pleasant roast malt, mocha, and treacle notes. Don’t wait till midnight for this monk, grab one any time of day!

Pretty good beer, but a little over-hyped with the price tag for 4-pack. Sort of mild on the hops for a black IPA this strength. Decent balance, smooth, and ABV somewhat hidden for close to 10%. May try again on tap to see if there's any difference.

A pitch black colored beer. A big frothy textured, tan head rises above. There’s good hang time on the head. It settles into low lying film and moderate ringlet. A light chocolate yeasty nose. Pine and citrus come forward in the tasting. There’s some bitter coffee and some roastiness. Light-medium bodied with some resin on the tongue.
