What exactly is an Imperial Red Ale? Well, in this case it's a big ass amber ale that looks good (copper coloured, tan head, hazy), smells great (roasted malt, caramel, grapefruit, and spices) and tastes good (sweet malt up front, citrus in the middle, and big hop whallop of a finish.)

Bottled@Akkurat, Stockholm. Deep murky reddish brown colour with a small creamy beige head. Aroma is caramel malts, some bready malts as well as some citrusy, grassy and fruity hops along with mild notes of spruce. Flavour is caramel malts, some mild bready notes as well as lots of citrus, fruity, zesty and floral hoppyness. A nice balance between the malts and hops makes this rather easy to drink, even though being above 8 % ABV.

Dark brown/amber pour with frothy one finger head and some pretty nice lacing. Huge caramel like aroma. Super caramel and brown sugar flavor, pretty sweet, but some toasty/burnt notes that are actually pleasant. Kind of a burned, more dry, slightly less sweet Bigfoot. I liked it a lot.

A deeply dark reddish brown colored ale. A small creamy textured beige head rises above. Not much hang time settling into a light ringlet and dusting on the sides of the glass. I’m not getting a lotta hops in this one. Not for an imperial. The aroma is citrus hops, though not real intense. The tasting is more caramel and nuttiness. Medium bodied, creamy. A good beer, just not the intense hoppiness the packaging would lead one to suspect.

Pours out in a clear reddish amber colour with a small creamy off-white head. Rich aroma resin, Seville oranges, flowers and burnt caramel. Medium to full-bodied with notes of resin, grass, grapefruit, soap, burnt sugars and crackers. Clean mouthfeel. Long clean bittersweet finish of resin, brown sugar, caramel and grass. Pretty good but lacking soul.

Wow... toss one back after a long day and your in business. Hoppy, piney, citrusy and floral without being overbearing. Coppery, hazy orange color when poured with an ample head and superb lacing. A sensory experience. Worthy.

One of the last brews I got from Blue Lou, and my most favourite I think! Pours a clear but slightly cloudy copper colour with lots of effervescence. Big off white head. Aroma is prety nice. Hoppy, malty and spicey all in one. Taste is pleasent. Rich and fruity with plenty of malt backbone but hop forward until the end. Really great beer. thanks Lou!

Big amber red pour with a decent white head and nice lacing. Sweet malty aroma with a big dose of grapefruit and pine hops and almost a cocoa presence. Taste is BIG and sweet malty upfront with a kickass grapefruit/pine hops bitter soon after and again a weird cocoa taste that is actually welcome. Super cool label, badass brewery, big ass beer.

Big thanks to Louis for hooking me up with this monster, I've wanted to get a hold of one for quite some time now. Hopped up malty amber ales are one of my favorite types of beers and this one had a lot of goodness going on. Pours a cloudy amber-brown and produced a great filmy head with hearty lacing. Aroma is grainy with lots of floral hops and mildly sweet malts. Full bodied, malty with a bold bitterness. Love me a hearty, hoppy mouth feel. Tastes rich and malty with some light toast, toffee and rye flavors. A quick sting of flowery hops followed by minor citrus and pine. Wonderful creation.

Pours a dark, opaque, slightly reddish brown, almost mahogany, with a thick and fine-bubbled pale tan head. Hoppy aroma has just a hint of cloves. Flavor is quite hoppy but not too bitter, rather lip-smacking, with a spicy hint. Texture is tingly, fizzy and lively and leaves a pleasantly hoppy finish.
