Hazy dark yellow with solid large white lacing foam head. Aroma is weak, blocked of by foam, caramel and bitter hop. Taste is low sweet bitter beer. Did great with Indonesian dish. (Velp 201206)

It's hard to determine which was the best beer I had at t 'IJ but, this was definitely up there. Poured a cloudy amber with a medium sized white head. Some grapefruit, fresh hops and other citrus notes on the palate. Beautiful beer.

One of the best beers at the Brouwerij 't IJ in Amsterdam. Cloudy amber color with a dense, bubbly off-white head and great lacing. Caramelized malt and yeast aroma. Superb blend of flavors - roasted malt, light toffee, spice, and bitter hops. Full, rich mouthfeel gives way to a crisp, bitter finish. Very nice; full and satisfying.

brownish amber with a big white foam. Quite dry and fruity aroma of roses, , pine-apples, kiwi and grassy hop oils. Dryish aromatic aflavour of flowers, yeast and caramel. Long warming aftertaste of wet grass, roses and caramel. Really interesting belgian strong, this.

NorCal tasting Jan 07 - I was waiting on this one to come around and it did not disappoint. An aroma of burnt toast, raisins, sweet and fruity malts abound. Appearance was golden orange in color. Mouthfeel was very spritzy and lively. Flavors were sweet fruits, yeast, some toasted cracker...very nice.

Hazy orange colour, mediumsized foamy head. Weak barnyardish caramellish aroma, which is a bit weird. Flavour is sweet malty with wheaty hints. Pleasant flavour.

Good dark amber with a nice glow. The off-white head is huge and creamy dense. Bready, yeasty, and fruity. Bit of caramel, cotton candy, mandarin oranges, nutmeg and bubblegum. Slight bite of alcohol. Lingering hop bitterness in finish.

I drank this at the brewery and didn't like it as much as the bock that I sampled before it. Fruity aroma and flavor with some "earthy" tones as EyeChartBrew said. Light brown color with a decent head. A little different for a Belgian style beer that didn't wow me.

Had a bottle of this while hanging out at O'Brien's -- a great place that has only gotten better with Tom Nickles cherry-picking all types of interesting beers from Europe, specifically, The Netherlands.
Poured a bit on the dull side -- and finished a little on the rough side, to be honest. But in-between the initial first pour and the last sip, this was a pretty interesting Belgian Strong Pale Ale. More "earthy" than what I normally expect from this style, and rather quaint in overall execution. But none of that is to take away from the fact that this is pretty damn tasty. No, I would say that this beer's quirks only add to it's overall charm.
A little too musty in the extreme backend -- quite possibly due to me accidentally dumping in some of the dry-as-dust yeast into my glass. Either way, this is well-worth investigating. Recommended.
