This medium to full bodied ale is a deep brown color with notes of chocolate and nut flavors. It has a subtle hop bitterness and chocolaty aroma. This is the perfect holiday beer for the season.

A translucent amber colored beer with a medium sized, soapy textured, orange tinged head rising above. Settles fairly quickly into a thick ringlet that climbs slightly on the sides of the glass. The nose is so light to be barely discernable. Some pine hops. That pine jumps out boldly in the tasting. A light bodied ale with a stickiness on the tongue.

On tap @ Bearden Beer Market: Nice deep red brown pour with a nice creamy head and decent lacing. Aromas of earthy hops, roasted malts, slight bittersweet cocoa, and nuts. Taste is hoppier than expected with a nice toasted malt and nutty flavor, a bit of cocoa and then a nice light hops bitter linger. Nice winter ale.

A well received new find at my favorite shop, picked up a couple bottles to enjoy. Nice robust ale here, all around tasty. Dark brown with amber highlights leaving a 1"+ creamy head and nice lacing. Nutty aroma with cocoa and sweet milk. Medium body, with a filling bitterness and warm finish. Solid flavor, lots of roasted, nutty malt sprinkled with bitter chocolate and mild coffee. This is like a light, robust stout/porter. Very nice ale that stands a couple paces outside of ordinary.

Poured a deep brown, clear, nice brown head. Strong sweet malt aroma dominates. Chocolate aroma pretty weak. Some caramel notes in here as well. Tastes of roasted chocolates, traces of coffee, nuts and toffee.

This brown ale pours a deep black color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is coffee and chocolate, brown sugar and molasses. A medium bodied brown ale. Malts are chocolate and rich coffee. Hops are earthy. Big rich semi-sweet malts flavors with a lots of chocolate and coffee. Seems more of a stout/porter than brown ale. Still it’s tasty. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

KCC Rnd 3. 12 oz. brown bottle. Generous, but short-lived, head is the color of onions in New Hunan's fried rice. The body is just a tad darker than soy sauce. Plenty of roasty and even burnt smells in the aroma, capped by strong cocoa presence. Flavor is all coffee and chocolate. Thick mouthfeel with a sweet aftertaste. A nice complement to mushu pork!

This beer poured with a light brown colored body surrounded by burgandy when held to light, and topped off by a small short lived tan head that left minimal lace. The aroma was sweet chocolate malts, caramel, some burnt roasted malts, and subtle spices such as nutmeg, corriander, and cinnimon. Mouthfeel was medium bodied and smooth, I expected something a little richer from the style. The flavor was sweet malts, chocolate, some coffee bitterness and a very nice, smooth caramel flavor that lasted throughout the beer.

Ye gods! I opened the bottle with my fridge door open and thought something went bad in there. It smells like rotten cabbage or something else. Just awful. Fortunately, it doesn't taste quite as bad as it smelled (that would be hard). No head, cola looking. Powdery cocoa flavor and mouthfeel with coffee and a strong lactic flavor that was unwelcoming. I thought it was some kind of bastardized milk porter. Just not good.

08.15.05 12oz bottle. Dark caramel pour, tiny head if lively bubbles quickly fades. Streaky and sporadic lace. Peat smoke flickers through whole grain malts; dead ferns of winter sprinkled with pepper and sage. This stuff would be nice with roasted chicken. I hate roasted chicken.
