America's first Trappist Ale. Spencer is a full-bodied, golden-hued ale with fruity accents, a dry finish and light hop bitterness. The beer is unfiltered and unpasteurized, preserving live yeast that naturally carbonates the beer in the bottle and keg and contributes to the beer flavor and aroma.

Yeah, I scored a couple of bottles (got a niece in Boston.) Beautiful golden color, near perfect white fuffy head, nice lacing throughout. Pleasant Belgian yeast and light biscuit nose and flavors, adequately hopped with a nice floral and fruity bouquet, great finish. This beer definitely meets the high Trappist standards of it's European counterparts. Bravo.

330 ml bottle, from Det Bette Ølhus, Aalbæk. ABV is 6.5%. Muddy brownish-golden colour, moderate to small white head. Aroma of malts, old jam and mild spices. Soft carbonation. The flavour has malts and Belgian ale yeast, peppery notes of mild spices, hints of dried dark fruits, there is a slight sweetness but the beer is quite refreshing. Would buy again.

Picked up the gift pack at LCBO, with 2 other brews and a nice glass. Pours an average size frothy off-white head that dissipates to a very thin coating, has a golden, light amber appearance. Decent sticky lacing. Great retention and moderate carbonation. Aromas of yeast, earthy and herbal hops, mild spices. Flavours of light roasted malt, herbal and earthy notes, oranges, spices and resin hints. Some cloves in the finish. Smooth and slightly dry mouthfeel.

Pours a hazy golden-orange colour with a warm frothy cap, good stay and some thick foamy lace. Fruity malt aromas with orange notes and Belgian Ale yeast, on the mild side. The taste is quite cereal malt like with the oranges in the background. A nice light blend of hops and the yeast lingers. A pretty easy-drinking Belgian Ale.

Part of a Spencer Trappist Gift Pack at the LCBO. The beer pours a hazed golden orange with a thin creamy head which quickly recedes into a rocky film which lingers a while. The aroma is light citrus, grains (wheat and barley), yeast, and some herbal hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour has a hint of honey sweetness to go with the grains. The finish is mildly bitter with yeast and hoppy notes. A good beer.

Found this beer at a big discount so I thought I would give it a try. Boy howdy was I lucky. This pours out a dark gold color with a massive white head. It smells of yeast with hints of apples and pears. The mouthfeel is just shy of being thick. The taste is heavy yeast light notes of fruit and is a very good beer for being only 6.5. Abv. I would be happy to buy it again at regular price. At $1.75 a bottle I paid it's like I hit the lotto.

Vanilla, grass, biscuit, a bit of piney hops, a fresh yeast in the nose. Good god, the head on this thing! Makes Duvel look flat!! Head is off white/light beige and rocky and frothy even with a soft pour. Leaves great lace before I even take the first sip.Deep honey colored body is cloudy as all get out. Yeast chunks are floating all around and also collecting on the bottom of this unfiltered brew. Mouth is soft and fizzy, medium bodied and slightly slick. Flavor profile is similar to a good Saison. Good grassy flavors with some barnyard funk, as it sits a bit I am getting apple and some green herbal notes. Has a nice sour hit to it with a finish closes with bubble gum and aftertaste is remarkably clean. Haven't had many American Belgians but man this is one balanced, subtle, tasty brew!

Comes out of tap hazy, barely translucent apricot with a fairly thick eggshell head. Malty aroma has a firm and somewhat sweet fruity overtone, mainly banana with some pear and mango. Fruity flavor has malty and woody underpinnings, the fruit being pear and banana with a tropical fruit hint; hints of woody hops and vodka-like alcohol bite come out as well. Texture is fizzy and firm, leaving a fruity and malty finish. Authentic Trappist in the USA? Gotta love them monks.

Opaque golden yellow, white lasting, lacing foam head. Earthy aroma, strong barley taste, earthy notes. A warm beer, nice to drink, bit sparkling. (Chicago 201510)

Just saw this at my local beerporium. Laid back label-"American Trappist Beer" OK Very Good! Tasty, some subtle fruit in the nose, excellent mouthfeel. Beer epervesses nicely from the bottle and the glass. Hasy with bit of yeast on the bottom. Light orangy coppery color about 14 EBC. Smooth starty and finsh, clean finish no aftertaste. Very drinkable! I like it and will get more. Supposed to be 1st authorised Trappist beer in USA by the International Trappist Association Second visit. This time phenolic notes similar to German Hefe were noticed, this changes my approach to the home brew clone I am working on. Still a delicious brew!
