American hops provide a smooth distraction for Payback Porter’s robust strength, which is concealed within the shadows of dark imported malts.

Darkness all around. Can't see through it. Thick, tan foamy head that sticks around. Aroma of malt and more malt. Taste of dark chocolate and coffee with some after spiciness.

Not sure if I have ever had this before. Tons of burnt roasted chocolate. Hint of licorice in the aroma. The alcohol is so well hidden. Real substantial body on this one. Pours black as pitch, no head, minimal lacing. Dry chocolately finish. I really do like this Speakeasy brewery; I will have to try to round up a bunch of them for my friends who live elsewhere...share the wealth.

Sent to me by Stoutlover many moons ago. Hearty porter with a good deal of roast, chocolate and coffee. Medium bodied and smooth. Good looking bottle with very solid contents.

Aroma is dirty pennies/metallic, roasted malts, dry chocolate powder (Quick) and light fruit. Flavor is strong with coffee flavors, dry dark chocolate, light alcohol and a touch vegetal hops. Body is dark black, the head is dense and creamy. Not bad.

Good porter. There’s not much really to criticize with this beer. It’s a very nice porter with flavors chocolate, ash, roasted malt. coffee and brown sugar. My only real criticism is that it’s a bit forgettable. Payback definitely takes inspiration from the American style of porters/stouts. The hops are evident, and all of the flavors are relatively big and bold. It’s a good beer and one of the better that I’ve had from Speakeasy.
