An ale of simple composition. The simplicity of Hoppe tests the skill and ability of the brewer to create something truly majestic. Hoppe is spawned of these few essentials: barley, wheat, hops, yeast and water. This limited palette is an excersise in minimalism, with refined elements which are deliberately selected. This simple combination creates a golden shimmering brew infused with delicious aromas. The artful nature of this beer is exposed with the first taste. As the malt and hops create a composition of flavors, an elegant finish leaves and impression that your tastes will not soon forget.

Aroma is fairly strong and hoppy with a grassy overtone and a faint fruity hint. It pours a clear amber with a very thick and fluffy white head. Richly hoppy flavor has a bit of a grapefruit tang and touches of both bitterness and sweetness. Edgy, tingly texture leaves a pleasant hoppy finish.

A clear orange amber colored ale. A medium sized white head, creamy in texture rises above. Not much hang time. Eventually settles into a thin lacing. Nose is a complex dance of floral and citrus hops with sweet pale malt. So too follows the tasting. Sweet, bitter in a beautiful dance. This robust body, smooth beer is a hit.

Bottle@Konttori, Tampere. Deep golden colour with mediumsized fluffy slightly off-white head. Aroma is lots of hops, quite sweet malty along with some alcohol and mild floral notes. Flavour is fruits, sweet malts, some slight alcoholic sweetness as well as caramel malts. Mild vanillaish notes as well when it warms up.

From Libations. Slightly hazy dark gold underneath a thin yet creamy ivory head. Hop aroma was VERY strong, especially as I was drinking outside, downwind of my beerglass. What a great taste; lots of hops here, yet it sweetened at the finish.

Poured a dark amber color with huge bubbly head. Aroma was lots of citrus and pine. Grapefruit all over my nose. Flavor was much the same and on par for the style was hot alcohol a little much. Solid beer.

A solid pour produces a three-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is an amber tinged, copper hue that shows lightly hazed, rich gold color when held up to the light. The aroma is hoppy smelling, comes off as being dry and has a touch of alcohol warming to it in the finish. The hope character definitely leads the way with aromas of orange-zest, some pine needle like aromatics and some notes of lemon zest. The nose is missing the exuberant Amarillo fruitiness that I expected from a beer with this hop in it. The malt character contributes aromas of crushed wheat crackers and some notes evocative of chewy French bread crumb (i.e. bread without the crust).
The beer is somewhat sweet and it is a bit thicker bodied than the aroma would have suggested. Piney hop flavors, tangerine notes, orange zest and ruby red grapefruit flavors lead off with the hop flavors. There is a solid bitterness here as well that is balanced by the malt heft, such that this beer is not aggressively bitter. The herbal / pine notes seem to be the most dominant part of the flavor profile, while the malt definitely plays a supporting, though it is not quite as buried as I would expect in a beer of this billing. Flavors of biscuit-like malt, saltine crackers, a solid pale malt toastiness and a touch of grassy grain character define the malt contributions. The body is definitely not quite as light as I would prefer, it has a medium’ish fullness to it that is well within style though.
This is not a bad brew, but it is not as expressively hoppy as I had hoped for. Still this is an enjoyable brew to be drinking as I cook dinner.

Pours a nice golden color with creamy white head. Citrusy hops in the aroma with some malt. Taste is lemony and spicey with some alcohol noticeable. My first imperial pale ale (not IIPA as listed--if so, I would hope for more hop bitterness). Very enjoyable.

An interesting brew. My first Imperial Pale Ale and my first Southern Tier product. Smells like a weak IPA. Pours an amber color with a thin, quickly diminishing head. Very soft on the palette with a balanced mix of hops, citrus and malt, but with a nice bitter finish. Can't believe this is 10% abv, it's way too smooth and the alcohol is well hidden. Good job. Looking forward to trying some of their other brews.

Bottle: Poured a light hazy golden color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of bitter and floral hops are very pleasant. Taste is a mix between some floral bitter hops and light refreshing malt base with minimal caramel malt and more of a golden ale base. Good carbonation with full body and no apparent alcohol. Very well done and I have to admit that I could not detect the 10% of alcohol in this beer and thought it was very good for the style.

Sampled from bottle. Pours clear dark gold with a thin, sudsy head and nice lacing. Pine, floral and citrus hops in the nose. Pleasant bitter flavor with more of the same hop additions there. Some clean bright fruits, too. Medium-bodied with a resinous finish. A good XPA - one of the few non-homebrewed versions I've seen.
