Cherry saison is concurrent with the best of summer weather. The days are long and warm, and the spring blossoms have gracefully turned to plump drupes. Much in the same way, our Imperial Cherry Saison undergoes subtle but noticable changes while cruising from kettle to bright tank. Like the sun ripening fruit, a pit stop makes this beer better. Cherry Saison is aged with French Oak staves, imparting overtones of spice and balancing the natural sweetness of the cherries. Cherry Saison is the first in this series to incorporate oak aging. Enjoy it as a dessert beer, or tilt it back while sitting under a shady tree on a warm summer afternoon.<p> 19° Plato; 4.5°L; 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, belgian candied sugar, cherries; Kettle hops - magnum; Aroma Hops - sterling

I tried this beer on April 23, 2009 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a clear golden-red colour with a thin white head, and some sediment floating around. The aroma was earthy, with some malt, and sour cherry to go along as well. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, with medium to high carbonation going on. The taste was earth, mud, some malt, and a little sour cherry. Good, but not great.

Bottled@Oliver Twist, Stockholm (Imperial Cherry Saison). Aroma is earthcellar, cherrypips and some hops and caramel. Flavour is mild cherries, some earth, barnyard and mild yeasty notes. Good Saison.

this is one of those beers that i'd buy a lot more often if it wasnn't hard to get (in Reno/Cali) and cheaper. big woodsie slightly sour oak and cherry aroma. nice feel, with some spicy zest to the flavor, with more of a sweet cherry presence than sour. nothing artificial tasting at all. a nice beer, just not quite worth the premium price.

Oct. 2009 - Not as bad as some notice as the cherry flavor was somewhat subdued. The underlying saison was not horrible. The cherry flavoring, while not overwhelming, was kinda artificial in taste. Good, but no need to seek out, really.

Nice clear light amber pour with a fluffy white head and ample lacing. Great carbonation. Sweet, bready, Belgianesque aromas with a hint of the advertised cherries but not overwhelming. Taste is slightly tart and sweet with again just a hint of the cherries. Very earthy and bubbly. Refreshing.

Light golden color, crystal clear with a fluffy white head and thick lacing. Fruity aroma with some tart cherry notes and a touch of noble hops. Quenching and mildly tart, lighter in body. Nice warm weather drinker. Straw and dry wheat flavors coupled by some mild funk and fermented cherry. A touch woody and dry.

Southern Tier's beers are becoming quite popular in Canada. This one is no exception. A cloudy red beer with a thin head, the aroma is musky cherries and the flavour was fairly tart.

This sounded good and looked good but that is where things went wrong The aroma was not of cherries but fruit and alcohol. too much of each. The taste was just bad. Not like the beer was bad but just a poor combonation of flavors that just didn't work well together. Unfortunatly this became a drain pour.

22oz bottle, pour was amber, some haze, nice initial head, very good lacing. That's where the goodness ended. Aroma was straw, caramel, cherry, no spices noted. The flavor was a disaster, sickly malty caramel type flavors, not quite sticky or even overly sweet, but just overly malty, combing with the cherry "syrup" flavor (very artificial) to create a train wreck. Spicing if any was lost, a slight grassy off funk was there to represent somewhat of a farmhouse funk, but this was like bad cough syrup. I normally dig what ST does, but this one is down there as the worst I've had from them. Sorry, ST, a bombo, and I couldn't finish all 22oz by myself!

Presentation: Poured from a brown 22oz bottle into a tulip glass. Appearance: It had a hazy body with a cool orange amber color. Its head was thin, white in color and faded fast leaving some slippery lace that slide down the glass. Smell: The aroma was no doubt Belgian. It's full of doughy and earthy yeast with mellow spicy wood tones and just a hint of cherry. Taste/Mouth feel: The flavor is bold and attacks the tongue with spicy oak wood, herbal hops and funky doughy yeast and malts that add some sourness. The alcohol is quite noticeable throughout and tart cherry is picked up in the finish, which is quick and dry. Carbonation is modest leaving the mouth feel somewhat flat but smooth in the medium to full body. Notes: It's wonderfully complex and delicious with some ruff edges that I think would mellow perfectly with some cellaring. Overall outstanding.
