This hoppy, Belgian-style golden ale first appeared in early 2007 as the first edition of our Short Batch Series. At that time, we called it the Gnome, an homage to Brasserie d'Achouffe. Renamed Homunculus, it will make its first appearance as part of the Big Beer Series in the spring of 2011.

Pours a nice clear amber with a fairly thick cream-white head that leaves a fair amount of lacing. Aroma has a fruity core of banana and apple with malty and butterscotch tones. Strong flavor is mainly fruity, again apple and banana, with a malty note, a hint of butterscotch, and a bitter metallic tang that gives it quite a punch. This beer is not for the faint of heart! Above average body has a lively, sassy, fizzy texture that leaves a fruity, tangy, ragged and somewhat metallic finish.

Decent representation of a Belgian Strong Ale. Still missing that true imported/Belgian-yeasty feel. About average for this style. Not something I would really get again, one of those "been there done that" beers. Prefer to spend a few bucks extra for the real deal. A solid brew....no wow factor though.

kinda like the bastard child of belgo old guardian and more traditional belgians. the yeast is fruity, spicy ,and sweet, with the hops a little more in the background. some alcohol heat shines through, as dome some bubble gum aroma and flavor. nicely done, tasty brew.

A cloudy orange-golden colored beer with a big frothy textured, white head rising above. Good hang tim with a medium sized ringlet and light film eventually left behind. Sptcy, yeast profile on the nose and on the tongue. Medium bodied, a bit slick on the tongue.
