Grisette is a a Belgian farmhouse ale which was originally brewed in the Hainaut Province to be the beer of the miners in the area, just as Saison was the beer of the farmers. It was lighter than saison and frequently contained wheat as well as barley malt (as does the Sly Fox version). The name is derived from the French word for grey, referring to the young women (the grisettes) who doled out pints as the men exited from the mines while still dressed in their grey factory frocks. The style is nearly extinct and will be an interesting addition to the adventuresome and ever-growing Sly Fox portfolio.

Pale yellow pour, very little head or lacing. Aroma was that of pears and apple. Flavor was fruity and spicy with just a touch of barnyard funk. Spices and pepper also prevalent. Fullness of flavor and mouthfeel improved as it warmed, but the beer got yet sweeter. An okay attempt.

Poured a hazy golden color with a medium sized, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of fresh grapefruit, vanilla, lemongrass, yeast, wheat, clove, and orange peel. Taste of honey, toasted dough, citrus fruits, juicy styrians, light banana, tart wheatiness, white pepper, and a dry, yeasty finish. I really used to enjoy Sly Fox brews...
