Fumée Massive ("massive smoke") is an ode to smoked malts. Its malty sweet spiral, which intersects caramel, taffy, and a hint of molasses, is closely supported by the contribution of the beech wood smoke.

Now goes under the name "Fumée - Ode aux malts fumés". Wow ! Big smokey aromas right out of the bottle. Pours a dark brown colour with some ruby red highlights. Nice creamy-bubbly light-brown head with good retention and thick lacing all-around. Lots of smoke in the nose with some molasses, mild dark fruits, smoked malts, roasted nuts and burnt wood. Nicely bodied brew with some creaminess, mildy oily, not too heavy and with the alcohol very well-hidden. The flavours are not as smoky as expected (given the nose is strong). Yet, still some decent roasted malts, dark fruits and peaty whiskeys. Pretty good smoked ale, well worth seeking.

This so-called smoked triple porter from Brasseurs Illimités is a smoked-beer-lover's dream. The beer is darker and murkier than the transluscent brown bottle it fermented in. To peer beneath the creamy foam cap is to look into the soul of eternity. The intoxicating aroma reveals deep-roasted malts that are smoked once over peat and a second time over ashwood. Complex flavors that are so captivating, you want to hold each sip in your mouth and marinade your tongue in the malty liquid smoke. The mouthfeel is chewy and velvety smooth. Aftertaste = Bacon. If you like bacon (and really, who doesn't?), then you will love this beer. Fumee Massive a rich, smoky brew that would be great with barbequed meats or as an after-dinner alternative to a cigar or a single-malt scotch.
