Pours with a dark brown body that has some ruby highlights with a small head that is light brown in color and thick in appearance and recedes slowly and leaves decent lacing. The aroma is of roasted malts stand out creating sweet caramel and chocolate flavors and there is a hint of vanilla adding to the sweetness. The taste is sweet and the vanilla jumps out more than it did in the aroma and mainly upfront, while the malts take over from the middle to the finish. They are roasted nicely at first while the sweet caramel, milk chocolate, and light roasted coffee come out in the middle. Towards the finish the malts give off a smokey charcoal flavor. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and starts to get thin and slightly smokey

I just noticed that I has never reviewed this. I like this beer for what it isn't. It is not too heavy or too bitter. IT pours a nice ruby to black with a tan head. The variety of malts give it a smooth balanced aroma and taste. Yo get hints of nut, coffee, maybe even licorice. but balanced so that nothing overpowers. I found it most enjoyable. agree with other reviewers that this is best not served to cold.

Good appearance. It's a bit more transparent than I like, but the head is a nice light tan that has good lasting power and lacing. The aroma is a bit hoppy, not really all that malty. The flavor is thin, with a slight sweetness, a bit of hop presence and a bitter finish. Not really a stand-out stout.

Impressive creamy, tan head that quickly dissipated with nice lacing. Flavor is thin -- roasted malts and coffee with a slight bitterness -- very typical, but a bit watery. Thanks to the peeps in New York for sending some new brews down!

Dark reddish-brown color topped with a thick creamy head, leaving lots of lace. Slightly smokey aroma with hints of licorice, not a real strong nose to this beer. Slightly smokey malt flavor with licorice notes and hints of coffee finishing with coffee and hop flavors. Full bodied with dry notes.

A watered down stout. A light beer with dark food coloring. Slight bitter flavor and a huge watery palate. Some coffee flavor is present. Nothing I would ever seek out.

Not to rich and great flavor! This has got to be one of the best Saranac beers. I am not a stout lover by any means, but this is a great beer. The flavor only gets better as you drink and as it warms in your glass. This would be a great beer with a dark cigar or a good old American steak and potatoes meal. Mmmm

7 kinds of malt are used in this delicious brew! Multiple flavor notes. Not overpowering in hops. Flavors become more complex as it warms and is best served not too cold. Try it if you can find it!
