Beers were dark before the Industrial Revolution. With the introduction of inexpensive clear drinking vessels, translucent beers became fashionable. When this sparkling amber beer was produced, it was declared pale to differentiate it from porter. Captures the soul of beer. It has a fresh maltiness that reminds you that good beer is a product of the soil. Beautiful balance of malt and fresh hops. Rare roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast chicken, cheese, smoked salmon, Dungeness crab salad, bouillabaisse, sushi, New York steak; spicy foods such as Mandarin cuisine; aged Yorkshire-style roast beef en croûte; tandoori chicken salad and pork stroganoff. Traditionally served in nonik glasses.

The beer poured a beautiful translucent red, with a 1/2" tan coloured head that lasted. The aroma was slightly hoppy, some grainy malt, and some weak fruit tones. The mouthfeel was medium bodied and medium carbonated. The flavour was primarily malt with a nice bitter finish. Very refreshing.

Sample from bottle at Copenhagen Beer Festival 2013. Clear golden brown colour, moderate white head. Moderate fruity and malty aroma, hints of ripe berries. Pleasant malty flavour, not very sweet, notes of toffee and nuts, decent hops in the finish, well balanced. Quite enjoyable.

Labeled now as Organic Pale Ale. Seemed a little ho-hum for Samuel Smith compared to their others that I sampled. Mild on hops. An English Pale Ale vs. APA so that is expected. Semi-clean feel and refreshing finish. A decent daytime or summer beer, but not really one I'd return to.

Enjoyable pale ale. Great malt backbone with some spice, fruit and hop bitterness. Nice appearance with a long lasting white head. Mild breaded aroma. Easy drinking with a thin smooth mouthfeel.

A nice amber/reddish color. Clear. An off white head that was of nice size. The head stuck around for a nice little bit. The lacing was pretty good too. A fruity aroma. Dark fruit. Wasn't expecting that. Some caramel malt and nuttiness. Rather sweet smelling too. The taste revealed a more relaxed fruit tone than the smell. A malty, biscuit tone. Some light touches of caramel. Some nuttiness. Some light bitterness. Not as mush as I was expecting. It is nicely balanced though. Medium to medium/light mouthfeel. Very, very smooth. Mostly dry and crisp. An easy drink. Decent amount of flavor left behind. Not as much as I was hoping. This beer is very easy to drink. Solid all around. Could be enjoyed year round. I thought it might be a bit fuller, but that's ok. It is what it is. I mean it's Sam Smith's. How bad could it be? It's still head and shoulders above any macro.

Could you believe I live in Canada? MArch 26, fall asleep moments after opening the beer on the sunny deck. When I wake up an hour later the beer is quite warm. Its still lovely to drink though, some woody character to the hops, nice robust carmel malts. At this temp the beer seems a bit thin and a bit sweet, I cant seem to see many comments in this regard so Ill just have to go pick up another. I figure this is brewed to emulate a heritage style. I have had many CAMRA cask ales all over the UK that resemble this beer. Its ok by the bottle on this side of the pond, but I relish the idea of drinking this beer at a pub some where on the river avon, or some such thing.

Not overly impressed I much say. Tastes a bit like a homebrew, which gives it a bit of character, but to be honest, if I wanted something tasting like a homebrew, then I would brew some myself and save a bit of money. Having said that, it's better than any of mine and deserves a bit of credit for that. Very drinkable and the flavour grows on you. One of sam smith's poorer beers, but still better than most of the stuff out there

Biggest longest lasting head with persistent lacing that I have ever come across. Lightly hopped, some caramel overtones, and just plane nicely drinkable.

Soimebody gave me a Samuale Smith gift pack the other day so I tried the beers. THis was a fine example of an English pale Ale, copper coloured, hoppy aroma, and a balanced taste. I would definitely love it if I received more gift packs

Got this in a gift pack and Samuel Smith hasn't let me down yet so let's see how this one does. Pours a nice copper/red with a big off white head.Decent lacing and retention. Fresh malty aroma, light caramel-like sweetness. Flavour is really nice and well balanced, just a bit sweet, primarily malty with a good hoppy finish. I really enjoyed the flavour of this brew, not nearly as hoppy as I thought it was gonna be which is a good thing for me. Mouthfeel is just a bit on the thin side with a good amount of carbonation. All in all another good brew from Samuel Smith.
