Traditional Ginger Honey Ale is an authentic brew that can be traced back to the ginger brews of the late 1700s. In fact, records show that Thomas Jefferson and his wife brewed 15 gallons of ginger beer with fresh lemons and honey every two weeks for daily consumption. Following that tradition, Samuel Adams Traditional Ginger Honey Ale is a highly effervescent beer that is brewed with authentic ingredients from the colonial era, such as fresh ginger puree, lemon peel and wildflower honey. Pale golden in color, the brew has a subtle maltiness with a floral, sweet honey finish. The sweetness of the Traditional Ginger Honey Ale is the perfect partner for sweet and spicy foods alike. We recommend pairing it with a glazed honey ham, Chinese spareribs, or baklava.

i'm a sucker for ginger, so i may appreciate this beer more than most. while the strange flavor, for a beer anyway, may make it so i wouldn't drink one everyday, it was pretty good. GREAT balance with the honey and ginger. quite refreshing.

Golden amber coloring with a shortish head. Not sure if it was this particular bottle or not, but there was some extreme sediment (honey?) in this bottle. I recall a distinct splash when a nickel-sized chunk splashed down on the pour. (good thing i'm not squeamish) Aroma smells strongly of honey and malt with the ginger and lemon peel notes also mixing well. Perhaps the names Ginger and Honey should be reversed on the label because the flavors are also stacked in that order. The honey is strong and accentuated by the malt while the ginger seems to be muted and relegated to the background. The finish seems to be where the sourness and bitterness of the lemon rind come out. Seems to be a well made beer, but not my cup of tea.

from notes 25Nov2006. Pours a pale gold, reminiscent of honey (ha,ha), with a very thin head that fades quickly to almost nothing. There's only scattered bits of lacing. Smell; lots of ginger, which is to be expected, but I'm also getting a little lemon. The honey is there, it's just a little hard to pick out with the ginger being so strong. Taste; the ginger isn't quite as strong as it was in the aroma, and I'm glad. I don't think i could drink this if it was. The honey ands a nice sweetness, and the lemon adds just enough sour to offset that. This isn't a beer that I would ever purposely buy, but it wasn't a drain pour either. Mouthfeel is definitely on the thin side, and the lack of carbonation just adds to that feeling. The drinkability is OK, but the ginger would make it hard to drink more than this one bottle.

To say I was suprised by this beer would be accurate. I liked it. I didn't think that I would because the thought of a honey ginger ale doesn't sound too appealing (and I don't care of ginger ale soda). The aroma was lemony, sweet and ginger. Lots and lots of ginger. Appearance was yellow (like a crayon) with a spritzy head and lots of bubbles. Mouthfeel was lively and bubbly but almost too much so. It did have a soda like consistancy. Flavors were ginger, honey, and lemons. I thought the overall taste was a little medicinal but otherwise decent. Perhaps a really good summertime drink.

This beer poured a cloudy golden/orange color topped off with a medium sized white head that left pretty good lace. Aroma was spicy and a little sweet. Mouthfeel was light to medium bodied. Flavor was mild and showed some hints of honey, cinnimon, ginger, and other spices with some light citrusy tones as well.

Pours an amber with a decent head and some sediment. Aggressive crystalized ginger aroma and a pleasant citrusy backup note. The flavor is slightly sweet maltiness. A pretty tasty beer in my opinion.

My first of the Brewer Patriot Collection four-pack -- I figured I'd give a beer that I have the most "baggage" with out of the way first-and-and-foremost...! ;)
"Que?" Only in that I've had *a lot* of bad beers -- craft, micro, macro, brewpub, homebrew, whatever -- made with Ginger and/or Honey, that have repulsed me to no end. So when I saw that one of the Brewer Patriot Collection had a beer that featured not only Ginger, but also Honey -- from a brewery that doesn't set my world a'fire -- I honestly didn't expect much from this one.
But really? It's not a bad beer, by any means. If this is as authentic as Boston Beer Company would have you believe, then I can honestly say that the likes of Thomas Jefferson and his home boys (The Patriot Posse) had at least this beer to savor in the hot and humid Summers of Northern VA.
Kinda nuetral in the nose (to me, at least), but rather appealing in looks. Very dense and sticky head of foam, atop a body lemon-yellow sun. Looks a bit like a Kristalweizen, or a Helles.
Yes, the flavor profile is rather sweet -- normally a *huge* deal breaker for me. But I think the Ginger balances out the Honey sweetness pretty well, overall. The overall vibe is sweet, true, but thankfully not nearly as cloying as I've had from this sort of beer.
Nice mouthfeel, and rather easy to quaff, though I do have to say that I wouldn't want to drink this (and nothing else) all day or all night long -- so drinkability does take a slight hit there.
But really? I fully admit to going into this beer with quite a few doubts in my mind. But really? It's not bad -- one of the better examples of a Ginger Ale (w/ Honey), I'd say.

Sampled frm bottle. Pours cloudy dark yellow with a creamy white head. Its aroma strong lemon. Too strong - almost like a household cleaner. Flavor resembles a lemon-honey cough drop. Not nice. Interesting, but still a must pass.

Pours golden-orange, somewhat cloudy, with full creamy head. Aroma profile includes heavy lemon, ginger and other spices. The flavors mirror the aroma almost exactly, which is sad because those traits were nice to smell, but not to taste in the realm of beer. Best described as a hybrid of lemonade and ginger beer. Knocked an additional flavor point for excessive sweetness to the finish. For what it is, not bad, though I certainly wouldn't seek this one out again.
