Samuel Adams Rustic Saison is an incredibly complex yet refreshing beer in the classic style of Belgian farmhouse ales. These blonde ales were traditionally brewed to quench the thirst of farmers throughout the summer months. The unique character of our brew comes from its Belgian yeast that imparts floral, fruity, and spicy flavors. These are layered with a slight earthiness and a citrusy, herbal hop character for a bright and satisfying summer brew. Samuel Adams Rustic Saison’s distinct flavor comes from its top-fermenting Belgian yeast. Belgian yeasts create a wide range of flavors but are often signified by the earthy, floral, and spicy tastes they bring to the beer. For our Rustic Saison the yeast imparts complex flavors that range from herbal rosemary and floral to spicy clove and estery notes. These nuanced flavors accompany a golden, medium bodied beer with a subtle cereal note from the Bohemian pils malt and wheat. To give the beer a pleasantly fresh and floral bitterness we use Hersbrucker and Tettnang Noble hops. For a hint of floral sweetness we add a touch of heather honey in the brew kettle to bring all of the flavors together. Flavor: Spicy, clove-like esters, cereal notes, herbal, lemon citrus hop character Color: Golden with a slight haze from the wheat. Original Gravity: 10.8° Plato Alcohol: 4.35% ABV, 3.41% ABW Calories 12/ oz.: 143 Malt Varieties: Harrington, Metcalfe, and Copeland pale malts, wheat, and Bohemian pils malt Hop Varieties: Hersbrucker and Tettnang Noble hops Yeast Strain: A Belgian ale yeast First Brewed: 2011 Availability: Seasonal (Apr. - Jul.) in the Summer Styles Variety Pack

pretty nice flavors and aroma for such a light, sessionable ale. floral aroma with some citrus, honey, and spice (clove-like) and a similar flavor, with a touch of other light fruit as well. Not much aftertaste, but a pretty good summer brew.

A nice golden pour with a thick white head. Aroma is fruity and sweet with some malt in there. Flavor is malty with banana and a bit of wheaty flavor also. Smooth and refreshing. A well done beer.

Pours a light amber with plenty of bubbles. Aroma is of mostly spices. Taste is of spices and not much else. Decently balanced and very light in texture. Not bad but not on my favorites. May have again.

Sampled on 7/2/2011. This saison pours a light yellow orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head with nice lacing and good retention. The aroma is fruity, spicy, a touch of citrus, some yeast and a touch spicy. A light to medium bodied saison. The malts are fruity and sweet, some orange, some citrus and some spice. The hops are herbal and floral. Nice carbonation. Its heavily filtered but it is still noticeably a saison. A little bit on the thin/light tasting side, but its still a nice beer on a warm summer evening. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and spicy.

Another solid brew from the summer style 6-pack... While admittedly it is not a true, high-quality Belgian/Farmhouse, it is a very good beer that may be the gateway for others to try other examples of the style - points for that in my book. Pours clear golden to slightly orange with a very faint head. Light to medium to the pallette. Aromas of cracked pepper, grass and bread. Flavor is slightly malty, a tad sweet with a crisp bitter finish. A refreshing hot-weather beer. Noteworthy.

    12oz bottle -

Found in the Samuel Adams Summer Styles sampler pack. Another huge thank you to Boston Beer Co. for continually spreading the craft beer love and giving people the opportunity to try a style that they'd normally not try. This beer wasn't anywhere close to being a quality Belgian saison, but so what. It was quite tasty, approachable and a good introduction to the style for new folk. The aroma had a phenolic yeast angle to it, slightly grassy, light citrus, wheat cracker and pepsper notes too. Wheaty flavor, with a hint of biscuit/doughy malts, grass and slightly earthy. Very nice, very enjoyable.

Sam Adams summer sampler has two new beers, so i will give it a shot, first on deck is the rustic saison. Aromas of alcohol, some fruit, and honey. Pale, clear yellow body, very thin and fizzy head, no lace left behind. Flavor has a strong and dry woodiness, with some banana, and slightly floral notes rounding out the taste. Overall its o.k. nothing great though.

On tap @ Bearden Beer Market: clear golden/light amber pour with a decent tight head and good lacing. Aromas of Belgianesque yeasts - light banana, fruits, Juicy Fruit gum, apples - a touch of funk, light peppery spice. Taste echoes the aromas greatly with a nice Belgian touch, yeasty and fruity, slightly musty and funky, a good dose of spice and peppery. Good effort from Sam. Very tasty.
