Created by Samuel Adams employee Lili Hess, Hawaii This is a very creative spin on a pale ale. As Lili describes it, "It's like you are drinking a pale ale after biting into a fresh green seedless grape." This delicate brew is light-bodied with unique sweet, yet dry flavors from the grapes. What a combination....

Where's the hops? I got a shot of grape. A little bit of Malt was detected in the nose, but the beer was mainly a miss for me, well at least I tried something new!

creative, yes...but grape does not work in any beer, let alone a pale ale. yuck. otherwise, may have been an ok beer...hard to tell. luckily, they're not making this anymore.

I made the mistake of reading the reviews before trying this one so I was a little nervous. The beer pours a nice light amber color but I didn't catch much of a grape aroma, smelled more like an English pale ale. Wish it would have been hoppier with a stronger grape and/or hop aroma.

A light amber apperance with a moderate white head. A very nice looking beer but that really is the highlight of this beer. The aroma contains hints of citrus as well as the obvious grapes and some caramel. This one is rather bland with some grapes and citrus in the flavor. Interesting idea but not executed well. Overall boring but ok.

Sampled from bottle. Pours dark gold with a thin white head and nice lacing. Tart fruit aroma. Balanced, fruity flavor. Grapes and beer - "what a combination..." as the bottle says. Really not a pale ale at all. More like a blonde. Certainly not a bad beer - just not my type.

Pours copper with decent clarity and airy head. The faint aroma is malty with concord topnotes. The flavor is grainy and weak; finishes clean. Light bodied and gently carbonated. Not an award-winner in my book.

It poured a light Amber color with minimal head with little lacing. I tend to have sensitive taste buds but I tasted no grape. I did taste a slight maple syrup flavor. This beer was not that great but it wasn't bad.

I was walking through Wine Corridor in Laurel, MD and noticed the Sam Adams Long Shot box on the shelf at the entrance to the store. I hadn't taken a look at the box yet to see what this year's edition contained. The talk of a "grape pale ale" got my attention. I wasn't sure what to expect since I've never heard of grapes and pale ale being mixed, but I guess anything is possible. With that in mind, I decided to give it a try and see what was there. Ho-hum is my initial impression.
Out of the gate I thought things were going well. The pour was a clear, dark amber color with hints of orange. The head was a couple fingers wide, but it quickly disappeared after a minute or so. A little lacing was left behind. At first the aroma was oozing from the glass but it quickly cut off. The aroma was that of a sweet maltly smell.
The flavor and mouthfeel is where this one goes wrong. With the promise of grape pale ale, I was expecting something with a little more hops infused with the wine-like tartness of grapes. What I ended up with was a beer that is rather bland and uneventful. The maltyness is really what hits the taste buds here and not much more. I'd struggle to characterize this one as a pale ale. Looks like I'll try to dump the extra 2 bottles off on friends when they come over and want to "explore" my "fancy beers". -

This fruit beer pours a medium orange gold color from a 12 oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is malty, some grape and grain. Medium bodied fruit beer. The malts are bready and sweet. The hops are floral and earthy. The grape flavors are more pronounced at the finish, there also seems to be a bit of oakiness as well. Touch of diacetyl as well. Kind of an interesting beer, you can definitely see and taste the homebrew origins in this one. Not quite sure it works, but it is interesting and glad that Boston Beer Company goes out n a limb, sort of, to make beers like this. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with a hint of grape skin.

Poured a clear, vibrant dark copper color with a medium thick bright white head and stringy lacing. Weak aroma of buttery bread and caramel No hop presence or fruit hints, which is odd considering this is a grape pale ale. Mild and filling with an airy finish that comes across as rather empty. Neutral flavor of creamy, nutty malt. Some notes of caramel and bread with an offsetting butter taste. Where's the hops!? Where's the grapes!? All of the flavors I was expecting never showed themselves, the beer itself is decent but doesn't reflect it's name at all.
