A NEW PERSPECTIVE ON THE CLASSIC WITBIER STYLE. Samuel Adams Imperial White is a new perspective on the classic witbier style. Witbiers are normally light and refreshing with a fruity finish and we wanted to see how these characteristics would stand up when we amped up the recipe. The result? We were totally blown away by the flavors that were created by this beer. This is not just a more intense version of our spring seasonal Samuel Adams White Ale. Imperial White is a new recipe that stands on it own merits. At 10.3% alcohol by volume, it really is more of a wine substitute than just another refreshing witbier. This is a beer that should be sipped and savored and you’ll be amazed at the flavors you’ll discover as the beer warms and opens up.

Pours out a burnt orange color with a thick white head. The aroma is apricot, peach and spice. The mouthfeel is thick but boy you can feel the alcohol. The flavor is a mix of barley wine and Belgium ale. This may very well be the best Samuel Adams product I've tried.

Another beer that underwhelemd me. Supposedly a Belgian style witbier, but I saw more of a hefeweizen colour in it. The citrus components of the aroma are present, and the flavour was refreshing, but no 'wow' factor.

It pours a slightly hazy amber/burnt-orange with a thick off-white head and some lacing remnants. An aroma of wheat malts, citrus fruits, peach and apricot, sugar, bread and yeast, and light spices. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of wheat malts, hops, citrus, bread and yeast, peach and apricot, and spices. Excellent, I am really starting to enjoy these BSAs.

This is a nice looking beer, copper color with a beige head. The aroma is alcohol, caramel chews, and the broken dreams of a forgotten child . The flavor is a wack of booze, like throwing a shot of smirnoff in your wheat beer. Some caramel and spices also in there. The finish is sweet and full of tummy warming alcohol. As they say on twitter #fail #beer #imperialwit @ratebeer this sucks!

I was hapy to find the scent of this brew a kin to the Tripel style but the finish wasnt so much bitter as it was sweetened by the alcohol. I find this too sweet. Mouthful was slightly syrupy and heavy. The color was a nice transluscent bottle o sunshine but the also failed to live up to the Imperial series from SA. I really enjoyed the Imperial Stout, not so much the Double Bock and now this. I ave taken a huge step back ward about SA except for the Scotch Ale. That is hands down my favorite brew style from SA, and that with an American Twist.

Pours a somewhat hazy orange amber with a fairly thick and fluffy, if not too persistent, off-white head. Aroma is wheaty and yeasty with a citrus, mainly lemon, undertone. Strong flavor is wheaty and lemony, a little sour, with hints of fruity sweetness and hop bitterness and an edgy alcohol bite. Texture is milk-smooth, fairly fizzy, and a little edgy.

Bottled@Monks Café Sveavägen, Stockholm. Hazy orange colour, not that much head. Aroma is banana, some biscuits and mild yeastyness as well. Flavour is banana, alcohol, soap, some caramel and fudge as well as mild spices. Alcohol gives a rather big burn in the finish.

Single bottle from Vintage Estates, no idea of the age although it's drinking rather nicely on this frigid day in January. Hazy golden orange body with a thin, filmy head and tiny spots of lacing here and there. Inviting aroma of orange marmalade, fruity yeast, vanilla, and biscuits coated in honey. Creamy, smooth and mature mouth feel. Medium bodied and it sips with enjoyable ease. No trace of the high abv, and moderately sweet with a succinct finish and complimenting aftertaste. Orange, lemon, apricot and peach fruit flavors all jumbled together and wrapped in an earthy Belgian yeast trait. Wood and vanilla with caramel and a slight mustiness. This is nice, I sense it's an older bottle that has had time to sit and develop into what it's supposed to be.

Well, since the Imp Stout by Sam was great, thought this one would be as well. Too expensive for what you get - and I am a fan of a few Sam Adams brews. The head, well, is lacking. Aroma is not as balanced as you would expect. It almost seems that this brew will drink better as it warms, but instead, it almost - as JKBpill says - burns due to the alcohol. The flavor is actually pretty good, though on the sweet side. Not sure if Sam Adams has the chops with Imp'ing this style of beer. Sweet orange, spiced citrius, hit you in the face. Finish is abrupt and flat. Carbonation gives up the ghost on the pour. Mouthfeel is more honey and cloves. Again bright with the citrus. Aging possible with this? Not sure I want to cough up the dough to do that, though. Best to pass on this - outclassed by so many other brews, and much easier to find fare as well.

THis beer was colored like a dark cider. The aroma was citrusy and sweet. The taste followed suit in that it was citrusy and sweet with an odd after taste. This after taste is something I figure is the ingredient that makes the Sam Adams Imperial series because all the varieties have has a bitter salty after taste. Not my favorite but I wouldn't turn down a free one.
