Robert Simpson Confederation Ale

I've seen this beer around Southern Ontario a lot lately so I thought I would give it a try. A decent beer for the price. It's a pale gold colour with a thin white head. The aroma is hoppy with some lemon tones. The taste is refreshingly bitter.

A decent brew. Nice head and appearance but nothing special. Goes down like a decent lager with a bit of a carbination but not overpowering. It is just above average and a decent beer in a pinch.

This premium long-aged blonde ale pours a light yellow colour with a white foamy head that stays a bit and creates a small amount of lace in spots. Carbonation is quite alive with bigger bubbles. Big nose of grainy malts and biscuit. Creamy and watery at the same time. There is a metallic flavour in the taste that bugs me. Other than that, good grainy malt with a nice hoppy grass finish that is kind of dry. At least no metal in the aftertaste. Nothing impressive, but worth a try.

Golden colour,small head and just a bit of lacing.Aroma is quite interesting fresh malt (cereal) and floral.the flavor i agree with Myke was more of a pils,hoppy but with some good malty notes...Nothing great for a beer labeling themselves Premium Long Aged....Mcauslan products anytime over this one...Who is Robert Simpson anyway???Probably a great canadian???I'm just a dumb Québéker...

interesting beer. i agree with skanadian, this is more pilsner lager than ale as this beer reminded me of a bit of DAB. i too can taste the biscuit. however, i find the head dissappeared quickly.

Pale gold with big frothy head. Average lacing and retention, but at least there is some! Lots of little bubbles rising to the top. Poor aroma of skunk, too bad. Slightly carbonated, but a little thin - not horrible, but not overly great either. Very crisp, which is nice. There is something hiding in the taste that I just can't pinpoint, but I like it. Unfortunately the main taste is not that great, more like an average lager... which I guess means that it is actually an average taste. Still, nothing special of note. Decent, but nothing I am going to jump at again.

As a side note, I have a funny feeling that this beer may have gone bad in the bottle before I tried it, will attempt to re-rate in the future.

Bottle: Poured a golden color ale with a medium light foamy white head with good retention. Aroma of floral hops is mix with grassy malt. Taste is a bit more interesting then expected with grassy feels mix with something quite salty. Without being great this is an above average golden ale with some character.

Bottled: green long neck twist crown...full 12oz.(355ml). Label instructs to keep refrigerated and serve at 3 deg. C...has a little temp sensitive indicator on the back label...no indication of a "best before " or expirery date. Hard pour puts clear gold ale with a puffy white 2-finger cap in your glass. Medium carbonation, fair head retention and lacing. The nose is a pronounced sweet citrus almost like grapefruit..very nice! Front side is malt biased but not cloying the mix of malts is interesting ranging from caramel to biscuit to bready to a woody rye- like presence which the hops overtake midway and depart that wonderful grapefruit tone to the palate. The finish is anticlimactic... being crisp sudden and clean...with just a light lingering after taste of biscuit. Aromatic, flavorful, crisp and clean with no sharp edges. Refreshing yet malt biased, fragrant and citrusy in the hop balance. A pretty good premium ale verging on craft quality...if it bulked up its body a bit ( a tad thin for all the great aroma and malts) and got some more hops in the early boil cycle, we’d have us a hearty cream ale. This is definitely a step up from standard commercial ales in flavor and aroma but not quite in the pure craft ale category yet....similar to the position Creemore is in the near-craft lager category. The up side is this will probably be a widely distributed bottled ale that will tempt standard premium brand drinkers to drink more craft styled beer and eventually go to full craft beers. It’s a stepping stone ale that could be used as a session ale for craft drinkers in a pinch.

Thanks pintbypint. Poured a bright gold with a large white head. The aroma is ginger and some carrots. Also a nice bready note. The taste is sweet celery and some walnuts. There are also some hints of light black pepper. Really, fairly nicely made.

My experience with this beer was an unfortunate one. Apperently it doesnt sell well, and the 6 pack I picked up ( as I would discover after a few of them) had started to turn. I returned them to them store I had bought them and was refunded another 6 pack, only to find again, that half had already begun to turn. Not the beer's fault I know...but that's what explains the poor review from me.
