A smooth-drinking dark beer with delectable chewy malt character. Dry in the mouth, with burnt malt notes and a dry, nutty finish. First brewed in Autumn 1980 in a revival of a style of beer that was produced in huge volumes in London in the 18th Century. Although originally intended to be a year round brew it proved particularly popular during the colder months and is now a winter brew available from November - February.

Bottle conditioned. Dark brown colour with the merest hint of ruby, and a slim beige head. Sweet dark fruit and roasted malts in the aroma with some chocolate. Similar for the taste plus some licorice and some nice bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied, low carbonation. Good porter.
