Nose - Peppery, spicy aroma with hint of apples. Palate - Luscious balance of grain and hop in the mouth, bitter sweet finish with delicate fruit notes. Comments - Warm, rounded yet surprisingly delicate pale strong beer. History - Ringwood's strongest beer was first brewed in late 1979 without a name, but a competition in the local press inspired Joe Leedham from Broadstone, Dorset to come up with a suitable zany suggestion! Although by no means our biggest seller because of its strength and high duty cost Old Thumper is our best known beer. It has won many awards but is best remembered for being voted Champion beer of Britain by Camra in 1988. Old Thumper is also available in a 500ml bottle. The bottled version won gold at the British Bottlers' Institute Competition in 1996 and silver in 1998.

August 2018: Cask half pint at The Lamplighter, St. Helier. Reddish brown colour. Spicy, herbal and malty aroma and flavour, hints of red berries. Very good beer, will buy again when I can.

I have heard a lot about this beer, and was delighted to finally find it. Aroma is strong, crisp and malty with a fruity and yeasty undertone. It pours a nice clear golden amber with an ample fluffy white head that sticks around for a bit. Flavor is malty and yeasty with floral, hoppy and sweet fruity hints. There is a slightly bitter undertone that complements the other flavors nicely. Texture is tingly and smooth, leaving behind a nice fizz. Extra Special? You betcha! A toast to our veterans! Happy Remembrance/Veteran’s Day!

Darker yellow with slightly brownish foam head, lasting and lacing to glass. Aroma is malty with some grass tones. Taste is a nice bitter with long lasting bitter aftertaste. Nice beer. (Barnsley 201210)

500 ml capped bottle. Poured in a tulip pint a hazy dark amber-chesnut coloured Ale with a one finger beige creamy foamy head that had a long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is toasted malts, fruity, nuts and floral hops. The aroma is intense toasted and caramel malts, juicy fruits, mandarins, oranges, spicy, pepper and herbs. The mouthfeel is clean, fresh and a bit sticky. This medium bodied Ale has a dry bitter finish. An Ale with character.

Light golden copper in color with a thin white cap and small bits of lacing. Comfortable aroma of toffee and butterscotch rounded out by some calm grassy hops. There's a strong bitter bite to the palate, body is rather thin. Seemed like a heavy dose of pale and crystal malts went into this. Flavor is grainy with buttered sweet rolls. Decent hop bitterness and flavor.

Cask@GBBF2007. Amber colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is caramel, wood, spices and some hops. Flavour is caramel, wood, vegetables and spices. Quite nice thing.

Beer poured a pale brown, decent head and lacing. Strong aroma of buttery diacetyl. I don't mind a little of it, but the flavor was sickly and buttery. If this were a true perishable good, I'd be afraid to consume it. Some hop bitterness at the end as well.

Not a bad beer here and it has some nice malty profiles with maybe some breadiness. The aftertaste is clean and smooth with just the right amount of bitter but does not even compare to Fuller's ESB, decent brew here.
