Elemental is our most awarded beer, it has won gold medals in Australia and New Zealand as well as being consistantly rated New Zealand's top beer . Originally the beer of choice for workers in London’s produce markets, the beer was a mixture of the previous nights slops that the "porters" would drink when they clocked off at dawn. Porter is also Andy's all time favourite beer style. Brewed in the modern ‘robust’ style, Elemental Porter is a rich, full bodied brew with plenty of dry, dark chocolate and roasty malt flavours which gradually give way to a cleansing hop-driven finish. Not intuitively thought of as as a food beer it is a surprisingly effective accompaniment for: Dark chocolate Coffee or berry-based desserts Blue cheese Barbecued meats And although historically it was a sunrise beer, we think nowadays it is probably more suited to an be served after dinner with desserts and cheese, although if you want to drink it at day break, we're not going to stop you.

Very dark brown pour. Nice tan head settles and lasts. Not much lacing. Aroma of malt, mild roastiness and chocolate. Malt flavor has a moderate roastiness, licorice, and burnt toast. Pleasantly odd hop flavour. Tastes like the same hop variety they use in Marlborough Pale Ale. Medium body and smooth.Well worth a try.

This is their prize winning porter, and while it's very good, it's not a beer that I would die for. A blackish-brown pour is topped by a thin dark brown creamy head. Burnt wood, butterscotch, coffee and roasted malt make up the aroma. Flavour is neither too sweet, or harshly bitter, combining the coffee and butterscotch flavours into a well balanced beer.

Pours a real dark brown colour with very little red highlights. Big frothy mocha-coloured head with good retention and a little lace. Big cocoa nose with some earth notes and mild dark fruits. The taste is more on the roasted malts, but very smooth, not harsh. Just enough hop to balance some bitterness (dryness) that takes time to kick in, but does slowly. Goes down a little too well actually. Very, very nice !

Pours a thick brownish creamy head and goes away slowly, after a while. Has a very dark brown appearance, close to black. Good lacing. Some aromas of cocoa, toffee and nuts. Dry fruit and spiced hops, and a bit of chocolate as well. Strong chocolate flavours, with notes of caramel and some toffee again. A little bit sweet. Roasted malts bring about hints of coffee. Mouthfeel is fullbodied and has a creamy, warming sensation. Mild bitterness, Medium carbonation. Very good and easy to drink porter. Bitterness and sweetness is well balanced.

500ml bottle: pours as black as a taxman’s heart with a tight 1finger tan cap which lasts well. Aromas of deep roastiness, some light fruitiness and herbaceous hops. Rich body for a porter. Flavor profile has a massive dose of roasty coffee-like tastes mingling with dark chocolate, a hint of vanilla then it goes to a long rich mellow finih where hop bittering dies up the palate. A great robust porter, very drinkable and well made.

The beer pours a coca-cola colour with almost no head. Two straight beers from Renaissance that lost their fizz on the way to Canada. The aroma roasted malt, vanilla, chocolate, and coffee. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is similar to the aroma with the coffee and chocolate bitterness predominating.

Pours a warm, opaque sable with a VERY thick and fine-bubbled tan head. Not only is this head quite persistent, it forms an "island" in the middle of the mug as it dissipates. Smoky aroma has coffee, caramel and chocolate notes. Rich flavor has firm tones of coffee, caramel and chocolate plus a hint of licorice. Smooth, firm-bodied texture has a fair amount of fizz and leaves a smoky, tingly finish with a mocha tone to it.
