Tasted at the February Northern California Beer Tasting. This porter pours a deep black color with hints or red from the bottle. Small sized beige head. The aroma is roasted malts, chocolate and licorice. A medium bodied porter. The malts are roasty and chocolate. There is definite licorice/anise flavor here as well. The hops are floral and earthy. Nice balance. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

NorCal Feb '08 - First, a big thank you to Phil_L for hauling this beer from across the pond to bring to our local tasting. It was quite the welcome addition. An interesting aroma and flavor profile on this beer. One of the few beers that I got big anise aroma and flavor in the beer. The beer pours out a deep blood red, nearly black color with a good khaki head to it. Aroma was anise, chocolate, and light roast. Mouthfeel was smooth, with a nice about of carbonation. Flavor was roasty, toffee, with a nice dose of chocolate. Some subtle vinous notes crept in as it warmed up a bit. Overall, a very nice porter.
