Feb. 2010 - On tap at the brewpub. I really liked this. Dark pour with a smallish head, but nice lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate and mild coffee and roasted notes. A rich fullness of flavors...coffee, chocolate and suprisingly even a strong fruity presence with no one flavor intruding on the others. This was masterfully smooth, sweet and enjoyable. The Portsmouth Brewery will be my home away from home when business calls me back to town.

Bottle into a tumbler. Pours a dark brown with a smallish light tan head. Lacing is modest. The nose is roasted malt, some coffee, molasses and toffee. Taste is roasted malts, vanilla, some bitter chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel is creamy, full-bodied and not a lot of carbonation. This is a sipper, although you don't notice the 9% - a pleasingly complex example of the style.
