Top-fermented beer with a deep dark red colour. This beer ripens for 24 months in oak barrels. This gives Petrus Original (in Flanders called “Oud Bruin”) its vinous, noble taste and slightly sour in character. The mild alcohol content makes this beer the perfect thirst-quencher.

April 2013: Shared 330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 5.5%. Very dark brown colour, large off-white to beige head. Interesting sweet & sour aroma, notes of oak and spices, hints of red wine vinegar. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is not as sweet as I feared, and not extremely sour. Light bodied. Some oaky and mild spicy notes, a hint of red wine vinegar again. Minimal hops, and the finish is rather bland.

Rated Nov. 2009. Courtesy of Degarth. Pours amber with tan head. The aroma seems to have malts mixing seamlessly with earthiness and a bit of dark fruity esters. It has a very light aroma but it is smooth, complex and inviting. The taste is an even mix of malts, a thicket of earthiness and mixing with smooth and blended dark fruity esters with mild acidity like tartness rounding things out.

Pours out a clear very dark brown with zero head. The aroma is of sweet hops and fruit. The mouthfeel is thin and sour. The taste is like liquid Sweet Tarts it's very sour and not something from Belgium even though that's what the label reads. And if it is "Say It Ain't So Joe " !

Dark brown with light brown foam head, lacing and lasting. Aroma is sour sweet, some wood notes. Taste is nice sweet OUD BRUIN as my mother always preferred. Nice aftertaste. (Rotterdam 201309)

11.2 oz bottle. Pours ruby amber with a big fizzy light tan head that goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.

The aroma is subdued - some acidic fruity sourness and some funk. As it warms it's more sweet woody cherries.

The flavor is sweet acidic malts with tart fruits and some light sourness and funk. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some sharp carbonation.

Overall, an OK mild acidic sour that is more sweet than sour. Probably a good beginner sour.

This beer poured a deep ruby red/ brown body with a thin cap that surprisingly leaves some decent laceing. The aroma is absolute pure sour/sweet. Light vinegar bitterness up front but a mellower fruit quality hidden in the background. This was a wonderful sour ale as the taste goes. Bitter/tart flavor up front but some hidden fruit in the finish. An easy drinking sour beer, flavorful, and not overwhelming in any way.

I picked this beer up from the Wine Gourmet in Roanoke, VA. Another very solid beer out of Flanders. This beer was good but for the style - funky and tart. Very nice.

Nice mild sour brown, not a face squeezer at all. Nice balance, the sourness is just enough to perk the tastebuds. Nice clear brown color, easy drinking and well aged beer.

It's a cloudy brown- black beer with a creamy foam and good retention. it smells smoky straw, honey and sweet. In mouth the aroma is sourish dark fruits, a lot of fruits. it quite lager.
