Our American Brown Ale has a dark brown color, with a balanced aroma of roasted malts and Northwest-grown hops. The sweetness of the ale and crystal malts blend beautifully with the assertive flavors of Cascade and Mt. Hood hops. A brew to be savored. This beer originated as a prize-winning homebrew many years ago. When Darron, the Head Brewer, began designing the beers for the Pelican Pub and Brewery, he adapted his old 5 gallon homebrew recipe to his new 15 bbl (465 gallon) brewery. It was well worth the effort, for not only has the Doryman's Dark Ale been a perennial favorite here at the Pelican Pub, but it has garnered prestigious professional awards. Dark ruby brown color with an ok tan head. Nice aroma of citrus hops and carame. Well balanced and easy to drink kind of a cross between an American black ale and a brown ale.

Clear brown appearance with a frothy tan head. Strong but a bit too clean aroma of caramel, burnt sugar and chocolate cookies with lots of aromahops. Clean and caramely flavour with strong notes of burnt sugar, fudge and roasted malts, hints of red cherries. Clean caramely aftertaste. Lacking soul.

Bottled. Dark amber/copper coloured, small beige head. Bitterish fruity aroma with malty and spicy notes. Spicy flavour with hints of fruits and hops growing in finish. Sweetish aftertaste and sticky palate. Appleish aftertaste.

Dark brown pour. nose is reminiscent of fresh baked squaw bread. Light bodied. Very good brown ale.

Medium/dark brown color, medium head. A medium bodied brown ale. Roasted malts, slightly sweet. Slightly spicy and somewhat floral hops. Good balance. Nice flavor. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Nice beer. Etched/painted beer bottle.

Clear, dark brown with red highlights, this pours with virtually no head. It has a roasty, nutty front end flavor with a slightly hoppy finish. This would be a good session beer.

Nice enough brew to look at , dark brown.with a fair sized bubbly tan head that went down fast but left good lacing. Nice aroma a good blend of the dark chocolate like malts and the spritzy hop. Again the taste is well balanced with the nutty, chocolaty malts dominating at first sip then the hops( Cascade and Mt Hood) assert themselves on the last section of the sip. It says this is an "American Brown Ale" on the bottle and they are not wrong..the hops are very noticable compared to the more traditional English style browns. Its ok on the palate..but maybe a little on the thin side. Quite a nice "quaffer"..I would like to taste this on tap at the Pelican someday soon.

What can I say, one of the best brew pubs in Oregon, and it's basically across the street from my house! I like them all!
